ThanksI've stayed out of this one, but time to set a few things straight. Cattle come under the WAC Act 1977 if no rightful owner is identified. There are a couple of different land tenures which effect this act and will determine how you go about identifiying if the said cattle are wild (reserves, conservation, national park, private land, council land etc....) each has a slightly different set of rules - its definitely not one rule for all. But in a nut shell most require you to try and make contact with the ''owner'' before any shooting happens. If you cannot find the rightful owner, then you need to try and impound the cattle and advertise in a local paper for 28days (+ or - depending on land tenure)...giving an opertunaty for the ''owner'' to come and collect them (paying grasing costs)...but if the cattle cannot be impounded due to their ''wildness'' then and only then (after advertising for the correct period of time - min 28 days) and no one has come forwards - you can shoot them.
That's a very basic summary of a looooooong legal act! In summary NO YOU CAN'T JUST SHOOT CATTLE IN THE BUSH WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE CORRECT PROCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
