    Whirinaki hunting

Hi all. Is the access off the Napier Taupo road any good? I will only have 3-4 days so dont want to walk more than a day. I know most places will be busy next week but i fancy some where i have not been before. Is the Pukahunui stream road ends through the forestry accessible and if so are they a good place to leave a car ?
Any info on good access would be gratefully appreciated.

Not sure of the state of the road lately, was a bit rough a year or two ago, be careful leaving your vehicle anywhere in there, probably not so bad now the cash crop has been harvested. It's pretty rugged country and doesn't have a lot of animals of note. If you want to hunt Whirinaki you'd be better going from the Northern Murupara end.

I would 2nd that advice, the southern road is rough to begin with and I would add that the Pukehunui area in general has been hammered recently with light results considering. I'd also always be careful leaving your vehicle anywhere out that way mate, probably be sweet but stuff does happen out that way.
Keep in touch. I'm out there Saturday again.
