Had a day up the valley with a mate and the dogs. I was a bit heavy footed and missed two opportunities but the other team saw a few and picked up a stag. Good day out.

Showed up at carpark, one truck there (manuka homes or something) start walking them2km to doc land wind blowing up my arse. Follow riverbed up and hear two shots... O well I'm here now. Get up to the slip I want cover for the evening all set up for 200m+ jut about to take coffee bag out of my first culpa when a few rocks fall down the hill behind me... Have a wee look through the scrub andtherebilly goat gruff 20m away, swing the rifle round and a 150gn sst through the neck. Go up and start boning him out for the dogs and a wee nanny show up so she got the same treatment and will be going into roasts. No redskins seen though

And then to top it off on the walk out going down tricky rocks that roll under you I lost my footing and the rifle slipped off the shoulder straight into the drink... Gave the dpt a good rinse out! Suspect the scope got a good whack in the process, grrr

a little too far for the 300 Blackout me thinks as these from my walk on Sunday... LOL!! Oh yeah and the wrong side of the fence Ha Ha... backing onto the Public land, but so great to see them like me out in the sunshine... drying out after a wet morning....

Man @Scouser those storms coming through the CNI have knocked quite a few trees and branches all across the tracks.

Now interesting in that this paddock had what looked like a deer trap where the public land that backs onto this paddock comes in higher up on the hillside and there's a entry spot for the fence that they could jump down to see their mates but not get back out again as its a 2m with a back lip to get back to the bush.

There were tracks (public land side of the fence where) a couple of stags and hinds it looked like had walked along the remainder of the fence line around this spot. Is this still a common method used to trap the deer from Public land these days?? Looks like it had been there quite a awhile and seen some use over the years. There was a section of about 15m of deer fence further along the fenceline that looked like it could be rolled back (to let any out they didn't want to keep I guess) I'll take some pics next time I'm there, looked quite a good set up..
