Who's shot one of each deer species in NZ?

So - Who's shot one of each deer species in NZ? Or how far off are you from doing it?

It had never really occurred to me that it was something I wanted to do, but I just realised that I only have to shoot a Whitetail and a Samba and I would have done it. Luckily (for me) I have a Stewart Island trip booked for the end of the year, so maybe I'll have all 7 deer species in NZ by then? Anyway it now gives me a goal to work towards.

Tell us about your ''big 7''?

Need a Sambar and Rusa. Had a miss-fire on a Rusa stag back in the 80's with an old Parkerhale .303. It was under 20 yrds away. Still have the cartridge somewhere.

Will be chasing a Rusa and Chital here in Oz next year. Dunno if I will ever bother with a sambar.

Bugger! I missed a trophy Roe Buck in Scotland with something similar, a cluster fuck combination of rain/fogged scope and a hangfire = a big miss!!! I had reoccurring dreams about that miss for months afterwards. I finally shot a few Roe deer before leaving, but none as good as the one I missed.

Dam it R93, I'd forgotten about that moment in my life...guess what dream I'll have tonight!!!

Ha Ha Sorry for the relapse. I miss-fired on a small rusa stag so it wasnt a trophy or anything. I did miss a huge Red stag by shooting a small tree. I still have bad dreams and think I will continue to do so, untill I get one as big.

Dunno if I am allowed to say on here tbh. But he is the only one allowed on the Rusa property.
He is a forum member so may chime in one day.

I'd like to some day. So far only Red and Fallow. I'd imagine chasing that goal would take me on some pretty sweet adventures.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
