Wife and Kids on hunting trips

I quite often take wife and kids on Fly in trips to private huts .
Still do trips away by myself or with a good mate .
When I move home this year for good every trip that is more than a day trip well be a family one.
Only change is that we will start going back to camping at Pio Pio flats or around the road ends and lakes down from Taupo as I have in the past during summer months with the odd fly in trip thrown in as money allows.
You get alot of comments from guys on the forums that. " ah leave the wife and kids at home"
My wife copes with the camping and hut thing with ease.
I grew up with this style of holiday with my parents in top of south Island.
How many other hunters are doing this with there familys or is a thing of the past?
The only thing my wife insists on is a river or decent creek close.

Mate, hate to say it but often their involvement is a pre-requisite in going. Saying that, the young fella loves the outdoors and gets a real kick out of coming and it's great to watch him develop and pass on some of my limited knowledge.

Unfortunately, living in Whangarei the opportunities occur all too infrequently.

Last trip I took the wife on was a winter hunt at the Oamaru. She's a bit adverse to the cold so spent most of the time hut bound while Cam and I did our best to fall over a Sika. Spooked a few but nothing for the meat safe on that occasion.

Where abouts in Zambia are you? I spent a couple of years driving overland trucks through that part of the world in the mid 90's.

I want to take them, my current situation does not allow it tho one of us has to be working.
In fact I think the only time we have taken time off at the same time is so we can be apart, her netball me hunting.

My first helicopter trip this roar and tho I love my wife and kids. .. I can't wait to escape from them...though Ipromised my son to come next year

You would have driven thru my town .
I are in Kafue which is just out from Lusaka.
We were working in mine close by ,got married and never left.
Even with me going on a day hunt I will go by myself but over nighters or longer I will take wife and tribe.
I work 6 weeks away from home so the 3 weeks back home with family is like gold.
looking forward to getting home and going camping again as I have a few spots I used to go to on public land which I was starting work out the lay of the land .
My other half cracked me up on the first trip to Mangamingi she came on as we unloaded the gear and were about to pile into the hut .
She stood at the door barring access with a hell no not until we clean and scrub this place down.
I reckon the next group coming in would have looked inside the hut and gone "what the hell "
She also refused to use longdrop .
I had to dig a new hole everyday for her away from the hut.
Chopper pilots would have had a laugh flying over and seeing a black lady doing her business in middle of nowhere.
Home cooked meals ,hot water for bath in a dish and fire roaring everytime I got back from a evening hunt in the dark.:thumbsup:

Yea my very Kiwi coaster wife woul;d be the exact opposite of that except the toilet, I would have to cook breakfast before I left and be back to cook lunch and tea :D

Yep, when travelling south, we used to park up for the night at a place called Eureka Farm - half way between Chilanga and Lusaka.

I worked the truck with my wife and the rough living conditions including 2 years under nylon, sleeping on a 1/2 inch foam mat and using some of the worst shitters you can imagine (particularly through west and central Africa) meant she was well used to the camping experience.

I must admit though, the bones ache more than they used to after a night on a sleeping mat!

They tell me Zambia is firing after Mugabe closed the door on Zimbabwe. Would love to get back for look one day.

My Missus comes hunting all the time and is quite into it. Shes found me a few deer to shoot over the years, carries meat out, helps butcher it up at home annnnnnnnd is a chef so cooks it pretty mean too.
More keen than some of my mates when it comes to hunting. When I have Kids they'll be coming too(ill have to carry bugger all meat haha). I like having her around hunting, much rather spend time together hunting than walking around some boring ass city shopping.

I'm looking forward to the day I get to take the whole family out hunting or even tramping, but to be fair I also enjoy my own time out and about or with mates....men need time away from family some times and at work doesn't count.

The overlanders are still stopping at Eureka Farms .
Yip place is booming ,shopping malls everywhere .
Still corrupt ,nothing is done without a bribe , works sometimes other times drive you crazy .
poverty is still extreme .
