Lighter or lenght of Dental Floss taped to muzzle .
Lighter, but I don’t check often. I plan my route based on forecast wind direction, with adjustment for actual breeze when I get there.
I tend not to hunt on windy days as I use my hearing more than my sight for finding animals.
lately Ive been using deer...they always seem to be downwind no matter which way we try to hunt....or maybe its just my butt???? as the wind always seems to be blowing up it!!!!!
shave hair off behind your ears or use a lighter.(lighter to see wind direction NOT for removing hair)
Lick a finger and hold it up
Bic flick
Winnie blues mate
Here in the States, I like to use dried milkweed pods. You can pull out individual seeds with a whisp of hair on them and let them go in the wind. You can see them for a long ways, so it gives you a better idea of what the wind is doing overall instead of just at your location. This is very helpful when treestand hunting. If mountain hunting I use a wind indicator bottle filled with orange carpenters chalk.
I just rip the tops off some grass, hold it up, and drop it. Seems to work fine, readily accessible in the places I hunt, and the price is right.
Might not have the sensitivity of some of the other methods tho.
Like the carpenters chalk @mallard833 how's the snow over your side of the ditch. We got a good dusting today but nothing on your polar vortex thingy you guys are getting.
Dogs nose always points into the wind
Cigarette smoke
Bic lighter.....Sived ash in a puffer container....all commonly known methods.
But has anyone gone hunting with someone who uses a e-cigarettes that put out a huge vapour cloud
How about a tuft of golden pubic hair ( ideally female ) from a beauty salon or an at home girlfriend shaving ses for younger blokes hung from the barrel - great talking point and could be stag attractant.
Iv always used a lighter, seen some one use a bit of fishing line taped to there barrel and it looked like it worked ok but never tried it my self
O yea nothing quite like removing pubic hair from a blond on all fours @Moa Hunter , iv got some here I can send it to you if you like ?...not paying for postage though.
Never watch a dandelion fluff. You will look into the abyss and go mad.
Bubbles :D aye @BRADS ;)
If your cap blows off to the left, the winds coming from your right side.
I use the little(50ml aprox) kids bubble blower. Any form of indicator that is close and stays close (lighters, string on muzzle, etc) are very deceptive and a complete and utter waste of time. Try it, use a lighter, decide from that which way wind is going, then blow a bubble or 2, you'll be amazed. Wind swirls, especially in a semi-enclosed space, like bush.
You will certainly confuse the deer if they see bubbles, they would be like :wtfsmilie:
Well guys I was trying to sneak in on this roaring stag but I spooked him with my bubbles!:XD: God please let me be there when someone tells that yarn down the pub:XD::XD:
Mind you smelly old stag at the end of the rut might just come running....so where’s this bath???:XD:;)
Bubbles think I might just try it:thumbsup:
Wish we had something like milk weed here. That stuff floats forever.
