Last time I was down that way signs had been erected by the Police and DOC regarding poaching and obtaining permission to cross both private land and land under grazing lease. Apparently this was in response to the large numbers of people hunting in the area without appropriate permission during the roar last year. If you’re going to join the hordes hunting in South Westland, make sure you gain permission first.
