Have a look where ever the sun is hitting on open patches .
If you have been there before think about the creek heads which are open to sunlight ,bit of grass and shingle is a good mix.
They are drawn to the sunny patches just like us.
Have you taken Mangatainoka 2 into consideration?
lots of nice open creek heads and a few warm slips once you get up from main river on hut side a bit of a short steep climb into a few of them but nice country.
I was keen to head there this winter trip coming but it is my hunting mates turn to choose so we are heading into Northarm instead.
Good luck where ever you go and enjoy the fresh air .
Love walking my gun
This is relevent to my interests, ill be doing a few winter trips scotty, keen to have a crack in the kawakas at some point.
I've hunted in the Kaimanawas in the winter - berloody cold camping out in the snow but all the animals were exactly where Zamkiwi said, on the sunny faces in the creek heads where the sun can get through and where there is cover near by.
