Mate all of the battens get fucked real quick when I have a stag either side of the fence so I have practically given up. As to next weekend it is just a mad dash down and up to set up a likely camp site but I am going down Thursday 28th March and coming back Wednesday 3rd April (only because it is my daughters birthday). Young Phillipgr will be coming down then but there is always room in the bush for another. That will not be a comfort trip though as I plan to set up not too far from a decent clearing that I know the stags contest for so will be carrying everything needed for the week on my back.

Dougie next weekend it wouldn't be worth it as I am not hunting just doing a quick recce to find and prepare a camp site so will travel light and expect to be in and out of the bush in 6 -7 hours max. During the roar is another thing though if you are up for a week in the bush (mostly over Easter weekend).

Cool. I am usually working Saturday nights now but can swap shifts with another girl. I am sure my guy would be happy to send me off as long as I bring home some meat or even a rabbit tail or something for my travels.

This maybe a stupid question but how come he didn't have antlers?

Because they have been cut off Richie. Most deer farmers remove the antlers from their big stags at least as they are safer to work with that way and there is less likelihood of losing an animal (although it can still happen). I have lost about six good stags over the years from goring one another. On one occasion about eight years ago I lost three on one day when I ran mature stags into my deer shed together to take the antlers off. I had actually had them entire herd in the shed the week before, drenching, weaning the fawns off the hinds, tagging the fawns etc and the stags were docile as. I made a call not to do the antlers on the stags as I was buggered so left it for the next weekend and in that week in between the hinds went into oestrus and the stags threw the switch and went from flight to fight mode.

If you have a look in Off Topic you will find a thread from about 4 - 6 weeks back where I took the antlers off one.

Yep. It is a bit far for you Neckshot but if anyone in this area wants to practise their roaring in a couple of weeks then let me know and I will arrange a night out here pissing off all the stags in the neighbourhood Now that is fun. There are four of us that farm deer within earshot of my place and there would be at least a dozen mature stags to rark up from the top of my place

Gotcha, i assumed it was a farm stag but wasn't 100% so i thought i'd ask anyway... plus i've made the mistake of 'assuming' before and didn't i get into trouble!
