    Would you consider this ethical

I have been curiously looking through the uk deer stalking training programme (dsc1) and came accross the following
advice dished out for suitable time to wait after shooting a deer.

Immediately load another round, apply the safety catch and then wait. You should learn to recognise the behaviour of deer, shot in different parts of the body, as this will dictate how long you should wait before following up. Whatever the circumstances, wait at least five minutes.

Practicality aside, 5 minutes seems like a long time to wait before administering a coup de gras shot.

I think it's to stop the animal getting pumped with adrenalin and going for another run. Just let it run off as calm as possible.

Don't need to wait if you blow it's brains out

The five minute rule is for the .243 and 6.5's, to give them a chance to die...with any decent calibre you just walk up and start gutting

Yes, If you had shot it with alegendry 7mm08 then the you would have killed it, it would have skinned and gutted itself and carried itself all the way back to your transport.

Anyone with a 7mm08 will have a mate drooling along behind only too happy to do the carrying...easily recognizable by the ipod wires hanging from his head.

Except if you shoot them at 1.5ks, then it takes you the rest of the day to reach the body!
