My mates 270 blew the receiver apart in our faces a couple of years ago from a similar mistake. Luck we came away with our faces intact.

He would be scratching to push that in and close the bolt.

Nah it was a weird calibre, maybe 260. He lent his gun to a mate who gave him what he thought was a new box of 270's for payment but it for some bizarre reason with one of these randoms in it.
They don't spend much time together anymore.

Nah it was the mate who was responsible but wouldn't come to the party.

Good lesson here check you have the right ammo before leaving to avoid any mockery being hurled at you by your mates.

Had one a few months back where a fellow bought his 30/06 to the range. First few shots were golden but after that it went to absolute crap. We checked the box and the federal 30/06 was as prescribed, but after I looked at a round and thought to myself " that's a bit thin for 30 cal" I checked the headstamp and low and behold 17 of the 20 rounds were 270. Some helpful muppet had opened the box in the shop at some point and had somehow swapped the rounds. Presumably there was also a blue box of 270 that had 17 rounds of 30/06 in it. Never did hear if the shop found them.......Owner was not a happy person.

I know of at least one person you fired several 308 rounds in a .270. Sako 85 action held but jammed on the 3rd or 4th round - gunsmith had a hell of a time getting it out. Worked fine as a .270 afterwards...
