Thread: Your best Rifle EVER?

I was putting my rifle back into the safe last night after a successful hunt. And it occurred to me that it is my best rifle ever. And its in good company, with 5 current mates and probably 15 predecessors over a span of 50 plus years.

Its a Browning micro xbolt in .243. Wood and blue. The micro model has a slightly shorter length of pull (I find that this aids with off hand shots) and a 20" barrel. I've had it for maybe 15 years.

Its never let me down. Its never rusted to the extent that I couldn't wipe it off with an oily rag, despite some rough treatment. It shoots all bullet weights under a MOA. Its never lost its zero. It has a great half cock if I want to use it. It feeds and extracts faultlessly. The trigger is great for hunting. Nothing not to like.

I've shot maybe 100 animals with it. I could count on one hand the number of times I've missed, or the times I've used an extra shot. Its shot reds, fallow, sika and Tahr at 8 yards to 500.

I think that the calibre makes it likeable too. Its good enough for most occasions and is a pleasure to use. I've tried lots of bullet and load combinations but the last has been the best; 85 grn Interbond at 3300 fps.

Lastly, its now got a Leupold 3-12 VX6 on it. If this thread was about scopes, I think that this would be my best ever too.

Have to say mine is the current 7mm08 in T3, have not owned as many rifles as you but have 3 in the safe at the moment. Have shot one or 2 animals with it and it would take a lot for me to part with. Currently have a VX1 4-12 with LR Reticle

Blaser R93 Offroad in 7mm-08Rem. Had it for around 15 years now as Germans were not as discriminatory as the Finns to us lefties.
Shoots pretty much anything, nice balance (especially now its been cut back to 19") and has accounted for pretty much every species locally available.

It has a couple buddies now too.

Blaser offroad as well except mine is a bit older than KJs and the bolt handle is on the non special side.

Got a few aftermarket barrels for it but my .223 barrel gets the most use. All barrels shoot half inch or under if I do my bit and out of hundreds of animals I can count on one or maybe 2 hands the number of misses.😆
It is the longest I have owned any firearm and I will only ever replace parts from wear and tear. Scopes for it is another story. But happy with what I have now.

My old man still has his Rem 788 he bought in the early 70s and it still shoots considering the patato garden growing in the barrel😆

My best ever rifle was a Baikal Toz 17 .22 with a Tasco World Class 4x32 scope on top.

Very accurate and deadly on the possums.

It helped me buy my first home using possum skins and goats harvested with it.

Should never have sold it, but times were tough and I had hungry kids to feed.

Thompson single shot 16" barrel suppressed. Also have a 270 barrel at 28".

Many moons ago I had a Rem 700 Titanium 7mm Saum apart from the fact that the mag only held two & twice I shot 4 pigs in a go with it (time out I need to reload FFS)

With is 3-12 x 56 Kahles on top it is without doubt the most successful hunting rifle I have owned, only had one pig go 30m, my fault, he was one of 4, other than that very little went any where before they surrendered

Before I sold it I was running 110 grain projectiles going a skillion fps fast & flat, (before the days of dialling), point & shoot was where it was at, rangefinder WTF are you talking about

My Charter Arms Field King 2000 S/S 243. Bought it when i started out deer stalking few years ago , plan was to upgrade it as soon as possible.
Its worked so well still have it, nearly shot every deer ive ever shot with it (which is quite a few now) apart from one stag that my backup 308 shot last year.(plus heaps of goats and a few pigs) Just upgraded the faithful tasco 3-9 that got tiredt to a Bushnell elite.
Can honestly say havnt lost one animal with it that ive hit. Missed a couple deer, missed a couple of pigs but nearly in all cases the scope was out .(hence upgrade to elite).
Might not be the flashes rifle around but its got a 100 pcent success rate and a very good percentage of those shots have all been free standing. Pulled off some incrediable shots with this rifle in the bush that i struggle to do at the range i recken .

I've owned it since I was 16 and got my licence. Saved like a barstard to purchase it. It has traveled from the top of the south to Twizel,
I have no idea how many rounds it's shot, we have taught 3 of my own kids and many people adults and youths to shoot with her.

Eats any pills but power point and has paid for fishing trips and other rifles in possom fur. Guns have came and gone but this wee beauty will remain with me until my son inherits her. Shoots straight every time all the time, seldom cleaned very treasured.

Mines gotta be my Sako Vixen I bought as a tied old target rifle a few years ago now. Had a home made stock and original heavy factory 223 barrel on it. I pulled it to bits and got it rebarreled to 6x45mm (6mm-223) and put on a tidy ex Police Vixen stock I snaffled off tardme.
This rifle is just a sweetie, and packs a punch with 75 grainers. It now wears a Zeiss 4.5-14 and a ODL can on the end.
