$1200 for a new rifle result.

A while ago i posted that i was looking for a new rifle in .17HMR and wanted a few ideas for everyone, well i think that thread got lost in the issues the forum had a few weeks back so i thought i would let you know the result.
After a convo with a gun supplier up North i had sent down a Savage TR .17hmr sr i think it was, after a look and a quick working of the bolt etc i thought it was what i wanted and told the local shop to hold it here until my funds cleared, well while that was happening i started trawling the net and then onto the Reloaders site and found a CZ 455 varminter in .17HMR which started the mind thinking again and then doubting my first decision.
Well after a bit of debate i decided to go with the CZ, it should be here on Monday and i will have a Burris 3x9x40 E1 to adorn the top of it via a set of Warne rings.

So thats what has happened with that decision.
    Cheers
    Mal

Nice choice Mal. The Savages are nice, but not up against a CZ.
They ask a lot for the TR's (didn't you say like a grand or more?). My CZ452 .17 cost me $1000 and my Savage one (which I use more) cost me $850 (all without scopes etc).

This was one of my deciding factors, the Savage TR was a good set up at $895 and then the CZ with a built in rail and still varmint barrel was only $795 but wooden stock which i like anyway as i'm a joiner by trade.

Can't argue with that. The CZ's have nice wood on them. I'm thinking of getting a 527 in .223 in the next year or so. CZ just make damn nice rifles.

The 455 should suit you well. The only reason I didn't get one over my 452's is they didn't have one in stock and I wanted one rifle for 22 and one for 17, not a combo (or I'd forever be sighting them in).

Nice choice - I recommend CZ to anyone with a bit of coin to spend on a rimfire. Other than that I would have looked at the Browning T Bolt or the Thompson R55, but its a big jump in price. I have the CZ 452 in 17hm2 - awesome gun.

Scope turned up today, Burris E1 3x9x40.
Put it on the rifle and roughly set it up before tightening the screws on the rings, first problem arises straight away. Because the zoom ring is so much bigger that the eye bell the bolt does not pass cleanly past the side of the scope and it needs to be slightly down to close at all.
    So the options are,
1 buy higher rings but that is pushing the scope even higher off the barrel which i don't like nor want,
2 Get the Dremel out and grind the zoom ring down to a suitable size, i don't like that idea either as it will void the warranty on the scope which is more likely to crap itself than the rifle.
3 Take a scallop out out of the bolt which should allow the bolt to pass past the scope with ease and then re blue it.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.
