    $17 borescope

They say you get what you pay for...right? Well not always.

I just picked this up from trademe for $17, https://touch.trademe.co.nz/listing/view/1223059052 its an endoscope type camera on a long cord. It plugs into your phone (only works on newer androids, not IOS).

You can take photos or video using a downloaded app. My mates first thought was to shove it up his arse... needless to say, I found a more fitting test subject - a rossi .308win.

Actually I'm very impressed with it. It has led lights, and you can fit a 90° reflector so it films at right angles too for a better view of say the rifling???.

The actual reason I brought it was because I replaced the clutch in my wife's mini copper. I had an oh shit moment, where I couldn't remember pushing the slave cylinder hydraulic line retaining clip back into position. Anyone who's worked on a fucking mini will know that to get to... well just about anything on a mini involves basically dismantling the entire car. So I brought this cool little camera thingy... poked it down a gap and instantly my stress levels went away, as I could see the clip clearly in the correct position

Anyway, for anything bigger than 7mm it works well as a very affordable borescope too.

    That is cool.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

7mm in diameter? No point if it doesn't do the best calibre in existence. 6.5mm

Make sure you get the 5.5mm one, especially if you're gonna give your mate a prostate check

To be honest I haven't tried as I assumed it wouldn't. But if there's a smaller 5.5mm one, that may be the better choice.

Nope. Apple is Ios. I think Android is the operating system used by most non apple smart phones sorta like windows versus apple.

i use one of the 5.5mm endoscope USB jobbies.

the 45 degree mirror thing is really useful for seeing how good your cleaning regime is, looking for carbon rings etc.

what I did to improve the image quality was to increase the distance between the lens and the mirror. initially just unscrewing the 45 degree mirror attachment as far forward as it would go without falling off. in the end I simply took it off the lens body and used electrical insulation tape to keep it in place a certain distance in front of the lens. does wonders for the focus of the image.

be aware that even on the 5.5mm camera, the attachments are a larger diameter, so they don't fit into a 223 barrel...
