    The $3000 gong gun

I'm thinking of building a bit of a toy that might get out for a hunt here and there but primary purpose will be shooting steel. I've set myself a budget of about $3k and so far my I'm leaning towards:

    Rifle: Mossberg Patriot Laminate 6.5prc

Pretty agricultural rifles but a solid platform in the laminate stock and fits rem700 bases etc. Capable cartridge and it comes pre threaded for suppressor/brake

    $1149
    https://www.deltamike.co.nz/product/...inate-6-5-prc/

    Scope: Arken Optics SH4 6-24x50

Seem to generally get very good reviews for the money, will do the job and they are apparently very very repeatable even more so than some much more expensive offerings. Mil, cos mil makes sense.

    $1099
    https://55six.co.nz/product/arken-op...top-34mm-tube/

Rings: Wheeler two piece with bubble level
Cos they look stong as shit and won't break the bank

    $174

    https://ozarkoutdoorsnz.co.nz/access...ngs/wheeler-9/

Base: Talley Pic Rail for Mossberg Patriot

    $169
    https://ozarkoutdoorsnz.co.nz/access...icatinny-rail/

    Suppressor

Dpt, with stainless baffle (would I need magnum version with the PRC?)

    $435
Centerfire over barrel modular with s/s blast baffle 223wssm, 30/06 MK2 - DPT Machinists

    $3026

What say ye? It's amazing how quickly all the little bits add up

Absolutely and it appears theirs plenty of 147 eldm on the shelves so that’d make you the first person to buy a prc in the last 2 years that can actually fuel it without selling body parts

Fired a 300 PRC Howa recently and it was fantastic, slings big heavy pills with speed and accuracy.

Don't know anything about the Mossberg but the bit I would be adding before the suppressor etc is a decent trigger. Having a crisp light trigger is a huge advantage.

not the big market for second hand mossberg rifles with their less than stellar track record of producing absolute trash

Will the big clunker of a Mossberg detract from the utility of the set up? You are bound to want to hunt with the rifle? Mind you, the scope is 36oz anyway.

I think I saw on here from DPT that you can use a standard muffler with 6.5prc. @Friwi ?
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

What about putting the 3K into your existing rifle ? 3K goes a long way towards a new barrel when needed, two sets of really good QD mounts and a target scope to swap on and off.

My current rifle is about as far removed from a gong gun as possible....
