    1-6x scope recommendations?

As per title, interested in hearing what others have been using. I'm on the market for one once I sort a few things out money wise. Like the idea of x1 power for close range in the bush/SRA shooting and like the x6 power for mid range capabilities out to (500m max).

Seem to be pretty good reviews on the Bushnell Elite 1-6x24mm but not sure on availability here? Also the Vortex Strike Eagle looks promising but unsure of a release date...

Whats a good optic for around $800-$1500? Any advice is much appreciated.

    Sas.

I have ordered a strike eagle having never seen one up close.
It is reasonably priced and was told august before any available in NZ.
Not something I would normally do but way cheaper than the HD everyone raves about so can't be to bad I hope.

Cool man be sure to report back how the optic goes? Be interested to know if the eye box is finicky like some of the other 1-6's. If you don't mind me asking R93, what did the Strike Eagle sting ya?

I haven't paid for it yet but told it will be around $800.
Buying it with some other stuff.
Will be sure to give you a heads up when I get it.

Awesome man appreciate it. From what I've read it looks promising, seems to have a usable reticle for up close & for mid range. Looks neat

No. Off a mate back home that is getting them in. Decided to buy local.
Optics planet does have them way cheaper but I have never used them before and if I have issues with it I have local backup.

I use one of these Vortex Optics - Viper PST 1-4x24 TMCQ (MOA)<br />Capped

They are fantastic out to 450m.

Leupold VX6 1-6x24, might be a bit more than $1500 though.

When we shot in comps against other Armies we shot the Styer out to 500 with 1× optics. We kept up with the poms using 4x optics on their SA-80 and the yanks when I first shot against them used irons😆 They were scary good.
Not sure what the rules are now but to be competitive we had to hit a 100 mm bull at 500.
Plenty of 50/50 scores were recorded with our shitty 1x optics.
Why is there such a jump in price going from 1-4x to 1-6x😆
I have got a bushy 1-4 going on my AR until the strike eagle arrives.
How much will I ever be needing the 6x shooting 3 gun in NZ?

    Very little

Getting something with a true 1x at the bottom end is much more important I feel.
To me there is a big difference between trying to use a 1x and a 1.1x as point and shoot optic-the 1x is almost a red dot where for me with a 1.1x I'm a little slower.

I would pic a good 1-4x over a ok 1-6x most of the time for three gun

It was my impression the std Steyr AUG optic is/was a 1.5x sight , and ours had a crosshair inside the thick donut , the Aussies thought they knew BETTER , and went with the donut & no crosshair , as they wanted quick snap shooters , what crap .

IF you have a fine crosshair , you CAN decide when to use it , IE at close range , disreguard IT & put the donut of death on it , and shoot , what its longer and you want a MORE defined aiming mark use the crosshair .

What you cannot DO , is use the crosshair , WHEN its not installed , eventually , the Aussies did put one in , BUT it took them a long time , they also stuffed UP their trigger with a pop out button etc , usuall cock up , your AUG was much better from the getgo , if they KNEW what they where doing , it would have been sweet , BUT they did not , they should leave shit along , as more often than not they stuff up a good system .

Yup 1.5x with CQB integral sights.
You could read a book at the end of the barrel😆

My point was we used inferior optics compared to other nations and kept up with them. So was trying to see other than obvious benifits to an expensive 1-6×, over a good 1-4×
