Thread: 1000+ Rangefinders?

Looking for something that will range 1000+ yards maybe out to 1500yards

This is just for gong/target shooting, has anyone been using google earth to measure distances? how accurate etc?

My geovids seem to putter out at about 950

Advice and personal experience is appreciated.

iv just got a pair of bushnell fusions, they get to 1800 in most conditions

ALso the leica 1600 are good with temp etc

Dont get Swaro EL Ranges.

If you dont care about glass then maybe the new one mile Fusions (even the older ones for ranging but the glass in them is truely horrific)

1600B, Swaro Laser guide, Vectronix will all get you there.

Thats all I have had personal experience with (owned, own or used extensively)

the word horrific is hardly fair for the bushnell fusions as i have compared them to my zeiss right till dark and i can assure you there was not 3000 dollars difference.
it was also a bit humbling that they also out ranged me as well
value for money i rate them as i have a few mates running them and will be keen to see how the new ones go
we have had the 15 power geovids the ten power the new swaros and my zeiss and the bushnell rfbinos out on the same day and the bushnell hold their own considering the price difference.
the ballistic calculator if calibrated is also pretty effective out to 6 to 7 hundred yards on deer size targets we have found.
all in all i would buy the bushnell rfb if i didnt have what i had already

GE and WAMS are pretty damned accurate. I have measured my house on both and they are with a meter or so +/-

My Bushnell's are fine.

How much you want to spend?
If you haven't got a budget then Swaro EL range, I'm consistently getting over 2200yrds

There is not enough difference to worry about in my humble opinion Rushy. I hear what you are saying though, the corners of the house will not be exactly where the measurement starts on the ariel shot. For LR purposes one would also have to keep in mind that the website is only measuring the true horizontal, so gradient would have to be factored in if required.
Also keep in mind that I paint houses for a living, so my tape reading is likely to be out

Horizontal distance more relevant to bullet drop anyway

Other factor with using something like that to measure is you need reasonably well-defined points on the aerial photo to measure between - hard to get an accurate distance from 'in the paddock' to 'in that other paddock over there'.

cheers guys, basically dont care about glass quality at all as i the geovids fit the bill for any hunting situation, ranging as far as im comfortable taking an animal at.

Think i might just use WAMS or google earth to be honest if it does prove to be accurate enough, its certainly cheaper
