did anyone else here get a 12.5" nea ar15 just wondering how you find it accuraccy wise or a load it likes
My current load is the 68gr Hornady BTHP's with BM2 which it likes, but haven't tried many other reload combos to be honest. Shoots the Hornady 55gr SP's OK too
Strangely the best factory ammo I've tried was the American Eagle 50gr varmint tipped, didn't think the 1/7 twist would like them
Can get consistant 1.25" - 1.5" groups @ 100, the occasional group drops down to 1" and a bit below. I'm very much an average shot so a good shooter would improve that no doubt
It does have a reduced power trigger spring so trigger is slightly better than standard but not by much
OK cheers mines a 1 in 7 trying 62gn sierras at the moment might try slightly heavier again I'd like better groups than what I'm getting its got a nice trigger in it now as well
I use sierra 65 gameking and 69 tmk , cant really comment on the group sizes tho as im still working on the loads
@northdude
Try these with BM2 powder.

My 16" 1 in 7" CMMG absolutely loves them.
Cheers

+1 for the 65gn Gamekings.
Go well in my:
1 in 8" Sako 75
1 in 9" 16" Schmeisser (Lothar Walther barrel)
1 in 7" 11.5" Frankenstein, think it was a Colt 2nds barrel from Spanners.
Hmmm will have to give those 65gn Gamekings a go
Cheers
ok tried 69gr match kings but still not that happy its better but shooting about as good as the sks i had with cheap steel case ammo 3"-4" at 100 is the best i can get out of it might be try a barrel time id like to keep it shortish so i see there are some 14.5" barrels on tm that apparently shoot well acording to seller or i saw a dd 16" any thoughts
Yeah those 50g Varmint AR223 American Eagle rounds are surprisingly good in my WW AR15. Shame I can't find a reliable source!
its lucky to do a4 with the light stuff
This doesn't sound good.
Have you contacted NZAR15.com? ie Ken?
No wasn't sure if he would be able to do much I guess I should give him a ring
Id expect better than that
the 16 inch nea of a friends is a tack driver
my 12inch (not nea) shoots under an inch easy
have you tried 55gr hornady steel case? seems to shoot well thru all the ar's iv used it in
No but tried 55g pills in hand loads that was a4 min they shot well in my 222
I'd at least expect Ken to check the upper and barrel are in alignment and change out the barrel and bolt carrier group to see if it improves things.
I'll just try a different scope on it first I might have a talk to him after that I've put a different trigger in it and stock since owning it so not sure how that will affect warranty and really can't be arsed with postage and stuff I'm quite happy to play around with it that's what I got it for and was intending to put a longer barrel on it there's a dd a ccmg and some no brand barrels on tm looking between 14.5 to 16 inch but if that schmiesser barrel came up that would be tempting as well even tho its longer also I'm not into bad mouthing ken he gave good service and its OK for what I paid
You might be just a poor shot.
what factory ammo have you tried?
If you don't have any joy send it back to Ken and it will get sorted, don't worry about warranty issues. If you are going to rebarrel I would recommend a Faxon gunner
thats a good move changing the scope and checking the mounting first.
its pretty embarrassing when you curse a rifle and it ends up just being a loose scope mount
@P38 what load of BM2 are you using? I've just loaded some of these to trial in my 16" cmmg with 1:7. Started at 24gr, which is probably getting close to max load according to ADI manual but i've loaded 64-69gr with the same so should be a good start.
Wish i could load something that was as good as those American Eagle 50grs, I just loaded up 20x 40gr Vmax's with various charges so will see how they like the fast twist. Would like to explode some Wallabies next month with them
thats the impression i got too, he seems like a top bloke
no problem when theres and issue
@specweapon
My load is 24.5grs BM2 with 65gr sierras and 69gr hollow points.
Cheers
Pete
My 18" NEA only liked 77gr match kings. It would shoot them into 1/2 inch but everything else was 1 1/2 inch + Even the equivalent nozler 77 grain projectile...
hopefully might of found the problem went to fit new barrel today and found the barrel nut was only hand tight so hopefully shes fixed need a test fire
Yeah, that wouldn't help!
Sounds like it was backed off too much to line up the gas tube.
Does your handguard use shims for the barrel nut?
Hand guard is free floating it slips onto the barrel nut and the you twist it about 5-8 mm and tighten the clamping bolts I'll probably change that at some stage but I havnt seen anything I like yet I got the NEA as it was the cheapest half decent way of getting into a complete ar that I can change around and build another one with the left over parts
Yep, it's easier than you think to under or over torque.
I think my 11.5" was around 45lb to get it lined up.
My .22lr upper, obviously no gas tube to worry about. Around 35lb.
My 16" Walther barrelled Schmeisser was factory and you wouldn't expect to check it.
As far as I know you tourqe it between 30 and 80 ftlbs I just did it to 30 gas tube didn't lighn up set wrench to 80 and kept tightening till I could lighn tube up didn't get to 80 so all good
Hey northdude I have a NEA with the 18" barrel and this is what works for me after trying lots of different projectiles. cheap 60 grain hornady softpoint #2270, 24.5grains of AR2206H, cci primers and overall length 2.260". Easy 1 inch groups and often 1/2 inch groups. I don't even sort my brass anymore usually mix of PPU, Hornady, Fiocchi, I have shot more than 3000 rounds in this setup with great success. I have just recently replaced the barrel with a faxon 16'' gunner barrel only because I wanted to lighten the whole rig cause that NEA barrel is a real heavy profile. I shot it a week ago and the NEA/faxon setup shoots great. 1 inch groups easy and my last 3 round group with a very careful hold on bags went 1/2 inch. A friend has a NEA aswell with the 18'' barrel and gets similar results. FYI when I removed the NEA barrel it was so FN tight it was almost pulling the vice off the bench so I warmed up the barrel nut with a propane torch. Good luck
its now a 14.5" nea its a 1-7 barrel I got off spanners and its lighter than the 12.5" one cant wait to try it out I'm using 25gr 2206h and 69gr sierra fedral and pmc brass
OK update on my naughty ar15 tried another scope and got same results had headspace checked and it was excessive so sent it to ken he looked at it and its come back with a new bolt and barrel so time to see what it does this time :)
Far out, what a hassle it's been.
