    14.5inch 7mm08??

    Hi
I am considering shortening my ruger 7mm08 down to get my dpt suppressor right hard up against the stock. This would mean my barrel would be 14.5 inches long.
I currently only bushstalk with my longest shot only being 60m and most of my shots on deer being 30m.
Im not in the position to reload my own rounds at this stage, and have been using hornady american whitetail 139gr which i am getting 2640ish fps out of my current 18inch barrel.
If i were to shorten it down i would definitely get a stainless first baffle for my dpt suppressor.
Im just after others thoughts on this; will this setup be fine for taking down red stags at 50m and closer? Why shouldnt i shorten my barrel? Are there any of you guys out there with a similarly short 7mm08 using factory rounds?

    Thanks
    YSH

buy a magnum suppressor as it will come back 170mm vs 120mm for non magnum and is only 40grams heavier and also quieter as more space

I wouldn't want the suppressor touching the stock, give it a little space. Otherwise, if you have thought about it and that's what you want, go for it!

Ive got a 15" barreled 708 model 7. Have shot deer at 300 yards with it no prob.

If i want to run it really short i only run 2 baffles on thr DPT

    Get into it.

The pros and cons are pretty straight forward,
Pro: it's shorter and also lighter
    Con: loss of velocity
Increase in noise and recoil due to higher muzzle pressure
More suppressor wear from unburnt powder

I have short and long guns, but actually prefer 20"+ barrels.
If you want to chop it chop it, can always sell it and buy another one if you don't like it.
I used to shoot a 7mm-08 and cheap factory 140gr ammunition at 2450 out of an 18" barrel still killed anything

Do it. My 308 is 14.5 inches. So handy in the bush. Running 180 grn round nose sierra pro hunters. Velocity unknown. Still travels the full lenght of sika and ends up a perfect mushroom under the skin at the other end of the animal.
