You measure from front of receiver to muzzle or bolt face to muzzle?

What type of hunting you going to be doing with it? Pottrring round the bush, 16.5 is fine, going to be in open country 18 or 20 would be better.

16.5 should still be good on deer for 400y with the right loads

Should be fine to 300 odd even with factory loads. The hornady performance stuff is generally pretty hot.if it shoots in your rifle

took it to the range yesterday and a guy was nice enough to let me put a couple over his crony
remington core lokt 140 gn was 2500ish over the crony and hornady superformance 2600ish, shooting about 1.5 inches at 100 yards
when i got home i noticed the bases had come loose so that sucks, i tightened them up and am hoping it wont mess it up to much as im going hunting next weekend and wont have another opportunity to sight it
