    17hmr Scope

what a cheaper scope for a 17hmr. What options are there out there. Would like a 4x12x 40. A simple scope, Dont want fine x hairs as i want to be able to use it at night time, Dont really want OA. Going to used for hunting. Would love to put a better quality scope on it but funds don't allow at this stage. Will put my scope of my .22 if i need to
Have seen a nikon bdc scope with 3 little circles under cross hairs but cant find any one that sells the nikon scopes in nz that looked ok.

Personally use Bushnell Dusk to Dawn 3-9x40. Goes alright. Not bad for $170 ish scope.

12 power top end on a 17hmr is a good useful scope combo, I used to run a 4-12 VX1 with a LR reticle on a CZ453 varmint, the glass was pretty shit but it was a good scope, nice size, 1" tube, suited the rifle & the LR reticle worked really well, shot bunnies out to 250 yards with it.

I'm running a Z5 3.5-18 on my new hmr, as I could only get 1" rings for it, now just waiting to go & use the friggen thing.

Agree with Philipo , 12 power max on a 17 hmr. I have a 6 x 24 Nikko Nighteater on my HMR, total over kill and never use more than 10 - 12 power. Most of the time its on 6 x .
Be careful with a heavy cross hair as at 200 plus yards a rabbit is pretty small and it doesn't take much for a thick cross hair to hid / cover the whole animal.
Plenty of well priced and usable scopes out there that won't break the bank.

Nikon pro staff will be way ahead of a VX1 (Freedom)
    https://www.scopeuout.co.nz/collections/rifle-scopes

Give these guys an email. Note also Nikon will be stopping production of rifle scopes so its down to what stock is left or second hand.

Also a good Tasco, Nikko or even BSA is probably going to be Ok as an entry started scope. any idea of a budget??

AT This stage around three hundred . I might just pull the scope of my .22 to tie me over until i can buy a better quality scope saves me buying twice. Least it will get me up and running.

Yeah I've only had one range session with it so haven't really got to know her yet, so far I'm quite happy with it

Pros - looks good, finish & build quality is good, cool double helix magazine, I like the action & it's something different.

Cons - average trigger & has a very short LOP on the stock - I've ordered a slip on limb saver to hopefully fix the problem

I use a basic Tasco 4-12 on my 22WMR. Very accurate, and inexpensive at $130 or so secondhand from mate. Performs very well which is what matters..

Yes good little scopes - some Tascos, Nikkos and entry level Bushnell all under $300 and do a rimfire 17HMR job well. Here are a couple of Bushnells at GC:
