    1896 Boer Mauser

    Hi all.

Just picked up this lovely old Sporter made off an 1896 Boer Mauser in 7x57.

Can anyone educate me on the optic?

It says AJACK 2.5X70 - BUT other than that designation I can't find anything else about them. The glass is a but fogged up and i wouldnt mind getting it refurbished.

    Appreciations in advance

Gidday - Nice. The scope is a 2.5 power and it has a light gathering rating of 70 - hence the 2.5x70 These folk should be able to refurbish it https://opticalrepairs.com.au/ . Andy Rackshaw in the Hutt is also a scope repair guy but he's very old and its probly better to go a bit further afield these days.

Interesting, I've got an 1897 cock on closing sporting conversion Mauser that has the Orange Free State markings on the receiver: 7x57 calibre.

Nice little rifle. With the sling attachment at the wrist and front sight I’d guess that it was a carbine too- not a converted rifle. (Much rarer)

Likely used against the British Army at Colenso, Spion Kop or Ladysmith.

    Copypasta:

"Adolph Jackenroll was a company located in Berlin when your scope was made.
They made good scopes, and the 4X90 were standard on the Swedish M41b and many German sniper rifles of the time."
Identify your target beyond all doubt
