    22-250 many still out there?

Just thinking which is dangerous lol
See quite a few comments about 222's and 223's being used on deer and the great projectiles we have now for them. Obviously the nice, light small action rifles are a big plus for these
Anyone using the 22-250 on deer or better for long range small stuff?
More of the same (velocity) is better or worse with these bullets?
    Slightly heavier rifles?
    What's the story?

Quite enjoyed the 250's I had.

Wasn't a fan of the twist rates but feel thats more to do with the date of the cartrdige.

Seems like there are plenty of newer calibres that offer similar performance with less powder burn / better barrel life and better projectiles.

Used mine on goats to deer but not at long ranges. Preferred the .243 for 400 plus on goats.

Yes, found the 22.250 ideal for fallow. 1:10 twist Ruger American, 69gr TMK. Way better than a 223, but not blasting big holes in them like 243, 6.5', 308, 270's.
No recall so can call your shots easy. Can run a 223 suppressor on them.
Hard to find a commercially available fast twist 1:8 as yanks regard it as varmint caliber.
Tikka make limited runs of T3 1:8 lites for US market but I gave up trying to get hold of one.

What are the fast twist 22 cals?
Maybe a rechamber but then the mag with the fatter cases would need a shit ton of rework?

    22.250 uses same mag as a 243/308/6.5Cr, i.e a standard short action.

Greg does a 22-204 Terminator that fits the bill if you can get a .223 with an 8 twist.

Personally I got the Tikka 1-8 .223 to run the 75 Eldm and 69 SMK at around 3100fps without pressure signs and that made for a very nice allround small game (Fallow included) cartridge out to 300 of Fallow and further on small critters.

6mm creedmoor is a decent in between but reloading makes the process fun/annoying depending on where you sit and costly outlay.

    Load down a .243?

I enjoyed mine, now days with twist rates heavy to light projectiles a good choice.
    In a non built-up area.

I love my Sako. Good out to 300m with 55 grain game kings. Even shot a fallow buck and 4 or 5 sika stags with it, most recently a scraggy 6 pointer at 330m to the shoulder, dropped and didn't move. Neck shoot reds though, and rather use a 6.5 on them. Nice and easy to shoot and not much meat damage.

    That's a pretty good load, 24" barrel? What powder/charge?

I've got a 1:9 twist bergara that I cant get enough of, got it specifically for small game last year. Dont think I'll be racing to shoot a deer unless it's a drive up jobby. Tad heavy to be lumping around the hills.
Shoots 55g-75g and everything in between, haven't tried anything either side of that. PLENTY of projectiles to choose from.
55g blitzkings doing 3720 fps Still mucking around with my zero setup but longest shot to date is 350m on a plover. Cant see why I couldn't shoot it further. Absolutely smashes them.

I have a T3 in 22-250 for hunting rabbits when the range or the wind is an issue for the .223. The extra speed helps the trajectory a bit. Never used it on anything other than rabbits.
