I can tell you one thing.... it hates Winchester subs unless you want a bolt action shoots them well though

Don't know anyone that breaths that hasn't succumbed to that.

Check with Belmont ammo I bought some Highland off them in December.

    Ammo

It did shoot from my CMMG AR15 conversion quite well. What I have found though is that the CCI standard shoots better/best and its $8 for 50 v $14 (I think it was) for the Highland HV.

Otherwise I tried quite a few, many sucked.

CCI subs, they reliably cycle my 597 with good consistent accuracy.

    Try some Fiocchi ammo.
When I had my 597 it loved Aguila ammo but since that long gone, the next best thing was Fiocchi. Made in the same factory as Aguila and even uses the same Eley match primer (hence real distinctive smell).
The usual bulk packs tend to have too much wax on the rounds for the 597 to cycle properly I found.
CCI worked OK but my 597 didn't like the Velocitors or other ultra fast type ammos.

Lots of tips for the 597 on rimfirecentral forum

Are you after something that's accurate or wont jam?

If jamming is the problem, buy a Volquartsen extractor, best $30 I ever spent! My 597 was a jamomatic before the mod, some ammo jamming 70-80% of the time.
Now I think it has jammed once in a few thousand rounds.

If its accuracy, mine will barely do better than 1" at 50yards with anything, so I usually go for the 555 Winchester packs.

So far for my CMMG conversion I am finding the CCI std the most accurate without jamming. Any seriously sub rounds just dont have the oomph to cycle the action it seems and any hv ammo just seems to go all over the place, though the Highland HV didnt seem too bad. So it might take some experimentation to find what it likes. I would certianly recommend a box of the CCI std at about $8 for 50 as a starting point especially as its cheap.
