Thread: 22 arc Tikka build

Anyone got experience building a 22 arc from a Tikka? What donor calibre did you start with? Tips and tricks …
Scored an MDT HNT26 Tikka SA chassis to slot it into.

This comes ofF reading the 223 for deer thread, parts of the rokslide post and mentally going round in circles from 223 to 22 arc to 22CM.

Sounds like a good plan but the ARC is a real short case for a long tikka action.
22cm would make more sense imo.

An ARC on a Tikka is probably possible but might have feeding issues etc unless you're going to AICS mags etc (and even then you might have less than Stellal feeding. As GPK mentioned 22 CM is a much better bet (and bettet all round cartridge) than ARC

My 6arc feeds beautifully out of a 10 shot ACIS mag

If you go 22 ARC you will need a .223 sized bolt face ( the .308 sized bolt is to big for the ARC ) which your gunsmith will have to alter into the ARC’s bolt / case head size and play with the extractor etc .
It has been done and there is a thread on an American forum somewhere showing it , I believe that guy got 308 sized M factory mags to work .
Personally I’d either get a.223 or just go 22 Creedmore/ 22-250 ….Much easier and a real step up in performance.

My 6arc is a howa 1500. With the bolt face sleeved down.
Run mdt acis 6 arc mags, with no feed issues

Will be using ACIS mags with the MDT chassis.

Have been mentally flip flopping between creedmoor, arc and 223. All have pros and cons. Availability of some factory ammo to use initially tipped towards arc.

This thread does raise the question of when Tikka is going to enter the 2020’s and offer some of these new cartridges in their lineup.
I love Tikka’s ….I own 4 of them but it’s time to catchup.

Lots of manufacturers do 1:8 223s which will shoot 80gn+ no problem, including Tikka. Check out the "223 on deer" thread.

Build a 6x45 ( mine throws a Sierra 85gr hpbt at 2865fps / 22 inch barrel ) or if you want a bit more oomph a 6mm204 , someone on here was talking about the 6mm204 recently and the performance is outstanding when you consider the case size .
All that involves is a donor .223 rifle / new barrel / Dies and cheap and easily available.223 Brass , 204 brass isn’t as cheap or available, but neither is the 22 ARC .
