    .22 project

Gday team just bought this nice and cheap as another project. Will be stripped, cleaned, barrel reblued and stock replaced. Any recommendations on what else I can do to improve its stance. Also if anyone has a magazine clip to suit I'd be interested.

Looks like a JW15 to me. It's pretty rough. Great project!

Thats what I thought too, but no harm in asking.

The original wood stocks are quite soft and very bland in figure. I have had good results with reshaping , sanding , painting then coating with a spray can of Krylon " Make It Stone " to give a stipple texture. You need to repaint afterwards and the use a sealer but the end result is sorta cool.

I'd be checking the bore before starting on any externals. Give it a good scrub with a brush and solvent and make sure it aint gone as rusty as the outside.

no but I used to have a few beers with him in the old Royal hotel in Opotiki - no I say that about a fire poker out of practicality - a really top gunsmith once told me when I was trying to restore a badly worn Tikka - Barry you cannot save every rifle - so if this did need a new barrel is it worth going on ?? sometimes we must be realistic - but if the tube is good by all accounts they shot way better than they looked

Everything has been painted over lmao. It's bloody heavy for a 22 lol. I've shortened it, cleaned barrel, stripped and cleaned and put wood bonding solution on bored already lmao everything was too easy to remove didn't even need a manual yawnnnnn hahaha. Any other more challenging 22s out there

there are lots the old Remington and Winchester pumps were great old rifles especially the ones with octagonal barrels - the later Remington pumps are real nice to -one of the nicest that come up occasionally is the Remington 541s bolt action one of the best bolt action 22 made -early brno mod one and two very nice - but all those now getting harder and harder to get

Yup I'd be making sure it still groups to start with.
Disassemble the bolt and clean/lube it, make sure the bore is rust free then give it a run.
No point tidying the rest if it's a dud
