    .22 project

Gday team just bought this nice and cheap as another project. Will be stripped, cleaned, barrel reblued and stock replaced. Any recommendations on what else I can do to improve its stance. Also if anyone has a magazine clip to suit I'd be interested.

If after more salvageable 22s if anyone wants to get rid of them, or anything worth working on I'll be very keen. Also is there any apprenticeships for gunsmithing

Looks like a JW15 to me. It's pretty rough. Great project!

Thats what I thought too, but no harm in asking.

The original wood stocks are quite soft and very bland in figure. I have had good results with reshaping , sanding , painting then coating with a spray can of Krylon " Make It Stone " to give a stipple texture. You need to repaint afterwards and the use a sealer but the end result is sorta cool.

I'd be checking the bore before starting on any externals. Give it a good scrub with a brush and solvent and make sure it aint gone as rusty as the outside.

no but I used to have a few beers with him in the old Royal hotel in Opotiki - no I say that about a fire poker out of practicality - a really top gunsmith once told me when I was trying to restore a badly worn Tikka - Barry you cannot save every rifle - so if this did need a new barrel is it worth going on ?? sometimes we must be realistic - but if the tube is good by all accounts they shot way better than they looked

Yup I'd be making sure it still groups to start with.
Disassemble the bolt and clean/lube it, make sure the bore is rust free then give it a run.
No point tidying the rest if it's a dud
