I'm finding the Fiocchi .22LR subsonic too loud even with a suppressor.
Tried to get hold of some CCI Quiets but NZ is sold out and no idea when the next supply will come.
So the local shop has .22 shorts at 820fps. Did anyone try .22 shorts for noise level and feeding problems in a JW-15?
Did some testing with @Moa Hunter a while back. He had some CCI subs that were a bit load in his rifle he generously let me try.
Had quite a crack and put it across his chronograph. Supersonic about 1 in 4 i think.
Tried them in his gun and they were running supersonic every one.
Tried 22 longs? think winchester called them zimmers. they were very quiet and albut a long rifle in length.
More luck in functioning than a short.
Yeah, there is a definite 'crack' with the Fiocchi Subsonics out of my 15" JW-15 barrel. Every time I fire one my bloody blood pressure spikes as I am contracted for rabbit control around campgrounds ie people not too far away.Quote:

I wonder how accurate they will be....due to the bullet from a .22 Short having to travel a short distance before it engages the rifling. The long throat of centerfire cartridges with bullets having to 'jump' to the lands is usually detrimental to accuracy.

Try eley subsonic hollow points. Ammo direct might still have them. I don't use them as they struggle to cycle a 10/22.
They are a bit slow but accurate and quiet.

Have you tried cleaning your suppressor?
I've found with both my DPT and ASE cans that when they get filled up with crap it can cause some shots to go fast enough to start breaking the sound barrier.
No idea how it happens, but am guessing it's something to do with pressure build up??
In the past I've used CCI CB longs, they dropped like crazy so were only good at short range but they were exceptionally quiet and feed well from my dads JW15.
Yeah I bought a shitton of CCI subsonics a while ago and they go with a fair crack. Enough to put the shits up the armed police who were a couple of properties over at midnight one night when I shot a possum ( on a side note my Maxtoch made their torch look like a candle). So now I run Winchester 22 long Z at 770 fps. I bought a brick from shitting and pissing a while back and was pretty surprised by how pricey they were. The Winchesters are 29gr but are fine for possums
it could be just the rifle.
Moa's 22 was a hundy fps faster than mine with the subs for some reason. Didnt seem to make much diffo with the powerpoints, but i may have that mixed up.
I have used Winchester Rapid Fire Pistol Shorts and they are very quite, and do 800 fps. Problem is they are solids but you could drill them to make them more effective.
I use Winchester 40 gr subs and they are good in my 10/22 , reliable function and accurate enough.
As mentioned above, the stuff that smallbore shooters use would be quiet - unfortunately they are solids.
( has anybody ever had a ‘solids made into hollow points’ device?
I am shooting eley subsonic from a 26 inch barrel with a super thin suppressor, it is extremely quiet. It is very accurate. However, Personally, I do not need it to be this quiet, I actually prefer cci subs Because it cycles in 10/22.

Looks like I'll try one packet of Aussie Winchester 40g Subs to compare noise level.
Failing that I will try Winchester 22 long Z.
All shots are headshots at relatively close range so solids would not be a problem if I find some target ammo as well...experiment time :)
guys overseas make solids into flats....apparently it ups the terminal end quite a lot.
head or shoulder bone shots ..solids be fine

Well, I brought 4 packets of .22 ammo to try out: Aus Winchester subsonic 22 LR, Eley subsonic 22LR, Remington Green subsonic, and a pkt of CCI rapid-fire pistol shorts.
I had to buy them at the local H&F shop as my usual hunt shop had sold out.
I asked the grissly salesman if he had any CCI CB Long or any .22 Long cartridges. The conversation went like this:
H&F Salesman: Yeah we have a full stack of .22 Longs didn't you see them?
Me: I saw lots of .22 Long Rifle and that packet of Shorts but didn't see any Longs.
H&F Salesman: (Sigh...) Come with me (he then shows me the cabinet with the .22 Long Rifle cartridges)
Me: Those are .22 Long Rifle, I'm after Longs.
H&F Salesman: There are no cartridges called 'Longs', only Shorts and Long Rifle.
Me: Nah, there are Shots, Longs and Long Rifle.
H&F Salesman: Look here, I've been working for Hunting and Fishing for 12 years and there are only Shorts and Long Rifle there is no such cartridge as a 'Long'! :pissed off:
Me: Ok, ok...(it was 5pm and I couldn't be bothered educating him)...let me just pay for these four packets then I can call it a day.
This evening I will take them all out for a trial run for noise and accuracy. Should be interesting.

If I was exceptionally peeved I would've done it first.
I certainly dont know everything (especially compared to a lot on this forum), but that sort of stuff annoys me.

And that is why I avoid most gunshops even the better ones - they are staffed to know-it-alls who generally don't listen to what the customer is saying and don't consider that the guy who has just come in off the street may actually know his onions.
one of the worst Ive seen was .410 ammunition advertised as 1 1/16th oz that extra space makes HUGE diference...and when pointed out,they argued it WAS once and 1/16th I pointed out that amount of shot wont fit in a empty 410 case alone,let alone with powder and wad.
now 11/16ths is a pretty standard load...just shy of 12/16ths 3/4oz just have to shake your head some days.
It probably helps the CCI Standard is also made to a higher tolerance, so less likely to have shots that break the sound barrier.Quote:
