He did say he was going to use it for practice to hone his skills with 7mm as well, lots of practice = lots of rounds = buy the 22lr mate.
Its not like its going to be your last gun ever, but it should be everyones first gun.
18c per 22 round sounds expensive?
The Dunedin h+f prices haven't seemed too bad when I've been there, Centrefire McCarthys had sharp prices. Taieri Arms in Mosgiel have a good rep but I haven't been there. Not sure who else is in Dunedin, Shooters World in Gore and Thai's h+f in Timaru have both been excellent in my experience but not so local for you. If buying online reloaders, sportways etc often have good deals too.
Gore wins on that list, and by a bit to.
Why are you people paying 70censt a round for hmr? This is from Quentin (45 south on here). even with freight its only 48 cents. Still more than a brick of 22 cci subs at 14 cents though.

I will always have an hmr and prefer it over a 22 and a 22 centerfire most times, mostly because Im happy to pay 44-48cents and not have to give a thought to picking up brass or reloading and inside 150yd it just works. In your case though Id say .22 is the best option.
I paid about 11c a round for my last lot of .22
Or you are just a guy that has earned his money and chooses to spend it any way you want. Little different to spending thousands customing up a factory rifle and more thousands putting a S&B PMII on top. Just choice. Like the old saying goes "money dosn't buy you happiness but its better crying in a Ferrari.":D
.22 Finnfire
With rabbit shooting down here you are likely to burn through a lot more ammo than in the north. So for here something cheap to feed is much better, especially for a beginner. And frankly shooting a 22lr is such good fun and makes the longer shots more of a challenge. I've learned heaps shooting it.
Then i will jump on it and keep it here for you, keep your eyes open.
I don't care, i will use it often enough
They made a Hunter, Varmint and Target model.
Well after all the info and help given, I've got an enquiry about the combination CZ455 .17 and .22 with reloaders. Just to see what a left-handed version will cost.
Getting both for an extra $200 or so sounds like a real option.
Thanks for the info guys (and possibly girls..) :)
According to this image ( http://www.gunsandammo.com/files/201...455-FS_002.jpg ) the scope attaches to the barrel, so two relatively cheap scopes would be the way to go I think...
And just as I say that, Dan from reloaders confirms that the CZ455 does not have a left-handed option.
Blast and Darn!
Back to the drawing board. Boo.
Buy a left-handed CZ452 in .22lr, shoot it a heap.
If you're smart, you can get a lot out of a .22lr.
I'm hoping that I can. Will need a lot of practise though. :)
Gimp will say practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes pretty good.
I won't argue that but will say any practice is better than none.
After last weekendS show in front of a forum member i need some practise, been a long time since i missed anything at off hand ranges.
