Thread: 222, Bsa

So i have sort of found, looking a , being offered a BSA in .222, not sure of the model and don't know a lot about them.
This ones maybe done some work, or the original barrel is buggered from rust , corrosive ammo, bad storage....... I don't know.
The wood work is surprisingly good and the bolt looks very good and action smooth.
It has being re-barrelled with a Gunworks stainless barrel ( I think, not Hardy's ).
The thing that to me as someone know doesn't know much about them is it has a what looks like a drop out mag .
Looks old school like the gun, is this original , normal or some home / gun smith engineering ?

have a gander at the one on for sale section.....they are a thing of beauty....yip yours will be mongrelized but the action at its heart will still be a cracker.

Mine had a floorplate.I’m not aware of any centerfire bsa sporters with detachable magazines apart from .303 conversions.

originals didn't have a drop out magazine, floor plate only. Pretty sure there is a picture in "The Chopper Boys" of a BSA hunter with an extended box mag that was used out of the chopper before the SLR's, G3's, SIG AMTs became more common.

Got to have de-valued the rifle making an alteration like this.

Some cullers / meat hunters used to have their 222 BSA mags altered to take a few more, which made them look like drop out mags. Originally they were only 4 shot, floor plate. Yeah get a pix @viper and we'll tell you all about it

We need a picture, a mate of mine has one with a factory extended magazine in .222, think its an early royal.

Yip, pic would help. I once owned a Sako Forrester that had what looked like a box mag when in actual a fact someone had just built a piece-of-crap 10 shot box which was loaded from the top.

I couldn't see any way to detach it but it's very clean and solid, not slop .
That should get you boys scratching your heads ans a few theories.

Ive seen a BSA with a "similar" mag, many years ago. It was a custom made mag, fully detachable, used by a meat hunter who figured he needed more than 4 or 5 rounds in one sitting. The one in the pic looks like a Tikka LSA55 mag made to fit.

Looks like a CF2. Mag may not be detachable, might just be an extension and load from the top. Wasnt aware Tiffen was making barrels? Might be fitted by gunworks and could be a vulcan, truflight or similar?
Not sort after like the hunter or majestic and less so with an aftermarket barrel but looks quite nice.

Pretty sure it is a CF2 action, I think it's one length action to fit all calibers. Should shoot well though.

Yep CF2 in a modified form. Long action is the only action length as mentioned. Sneezes comments on collect-ability spot on.
