Thread: .223 Recommendations ?

Hey brothers just thought Id ask for some more advice. I have recently purchased a tikka .308 I bloody love it its awesome. But you see ive caught the multiple gun bug bad hahaha and next on my list is a .223. Id like to hear some personal reviews and recommendations regarding different brands and makes. Should I stick with tikka? try a brownning maybe? Let me know anyway guys. Thanks!

My 223 is a Rem Mod 7, nice handy rifle, certainly accurate enough, not to heavy, so all and all pretty good little rifle. Velocity I get with 20 inch barrel is 3070 fps with the 55 gr Hornady sp/wc handload. You wouldn't go wrong with a Tikka as they are usually very accurate and a reasonable weight. Really need to try a few different brands and see what fits you well, most known brands of rifles these days will shoot one inch or less at 100 yards.

Sounds epic bro! The tikka was my first centrefire, havent really handled much other brands apart from a Howa which was allgood but it was heavy asf lol no direspect to the howa boys on the forum

Get another Tikka. 223 comes in 1:8 twist, not all do. And they normally shoot good.
I'd say this is the general consensus through out the threads from years gone by.

Is the in 1:8 twist better then the 1:12?

I think so... My first one shot 50-80gr projectiles well.
If you like long shots the fast twist let's you shoot high bc heavy bullets, also you may find a deer in your varmint spot, the heavy bullet may help in that situation too.
If you will shoot 55gr bullets and under get the slow 1:12 twist.

I should add, hand loading goes well with 1:8 twist. In saying that I'm not sure what heavy bullets you can by in off the shelf ammo.

Anyone here tried the cheapy Norinco Bushranger in .223? It's tempting for the price, but, it's Norinco.

Some good advice bro. Ill definitely keep the reloading part in mind. As of right now i dont reload but its something im interested in learning

A Tikka T3 in 1:8 twist for the heavier pills and long shots

An AR platform for the lighter pills and pest management

Yeahhh I made the jw15 mistake as well, very quickly passed that one on. I love my Norinco SKS but arsenal guns built back in the 70s that were intended for Chinese military use are a whole other ball game to the the guns they're making now purely for export. I was watching Ian from forgotten weapons shooting the Norinco QBZ earlier today and it looked ridiculous, any movement he made it sounded like he was holding a crappy dollar store nerf gun. Buuut on the other hand he M305 is apparentrly pretty awesome so they are pretty damn inconsistent, so I can't help but wonder about that Bushranger.

Ar15 man. Can be had for same price as a tikka, and are at least twice as fun. Be prepared to spend more in ammo though. For a bolt gun, the howa mini's are a neat wee gun

Cheers for the input brothers, It looks like ill need more then one .223 haha think ill smash the bolt action out first still fairly new to hunting and shooting. But an ar will definitely be in the pipeline for a future purchase. Cheers guys
