    22lr subsonic Hollow point

Been collecting packets of subsonic hollow point hunting ammo to try in my build once it’s done
    Currently have
    Cci 40gn subsonic
    Winchester 40gn
    Winchester 42gn
    Aguila 38gn
    Fiocchi 40gn
    Eley 40gn

Any good ones ive missed I should get a hold of?

Looking at all subsonic arround 1065fps mark ie normal subsonic ammo
Not really interested in the super slow stuff Like 7-800 type stuff

I use CCI Suppressor 45gr at 970fps & find it a good killer & accurate in my rifles .

When you say packets do you mean a pack of 50/100 or a brick of 500?

Personally would not bother buying any less of one type in a quantity of 500-1000 or more, especially with ammo shortages being an issue (maybe you could sell/trade whatever didn't shoot?).

Usually land up shooting around 50-100 in one range session, so no point finding a 'magic' load that shoots great in your rifle, only to get back to the shop and they have sold out or you buy another lot of the same ammo which is totally different and you are back to square one.

Here in the UK we have stupid ammo limits, I'm on 1500 for .22LR (not enough!) and was told that is considered to be a lot!

Would be much happier if the limit was scrapped as there is no limit for shotgun rounds as long as they are not slugs, which is pretty stupid.

    Good luck.

Don't leave it too long between buying your test ammo and then sorting out what shoots best. Did the same as you of one of my rifles and resolved that the Aguila available at the time out shot everything else, including some very expensive target ammo. By the time I went to buy a bulk lot, the ammo was sold out and the agents weren't importing any more. Had to settle for the next best which pissed me off because I knew I was using the second best ammo for the job.

Once you have sorted what works, buy a good quantity of the same batch. You can always sell it later.

I would have said RWS and SK subsonic hollowpoints, but I don't see either of them listed in NZ anymore? They used to be available through Shootingstuff and Belmont respectively. Maybe on request?

    I'm in the same boat.
Got the Norinco l/a shortened and threaded and it was doing yucky things with the winchester subs I had, some new heavy ones and some of the old white packet stuff from 15 years ago.
Tried some of the fiocchi (same as CCI if you believe GC staff) no better, but some cheap-ass CCI standard vel solids halved the groups back down to inch-ish (over not under) at 50m.
Not ideal but way better and shows it isn't quite a junker.
Need a better rest set up next time and maybe lighten the trigger hammer spring. really strong and don't know if the hammer hitting is moving things around lol
The CCI subs seem to get good reports everywhere so i just need to try some i think especially considering how the solids went

    No definitely 50’s for now
When I find out what it likes then ill buy 500’s
I don’t have money to burn so buying 500 then finding out the rifle doesn’t like it
    That’s just throwing money away

Disagree with you there mate, thread on here talking of a .22LR ammo shortage coming (if not already in force).

If you get a 500 pack there will be a small discount anyway.

Better to buy in bulk, shoot a hundred or so to test then sell what you don't need.

Surely you can sell on .22LR ammo at a price comparable what you would pay in a shop, even with shipping factored in?

Would be surprised if you did not break even at least!

i found the aussie winnys shot best in my rifles but i dont think they make it any more. It always makes me wonder why they do that make a product that works really well so it will be a good seller then stop making it. how does that work

Same here, but often find that money spent now turns into a saving later.

Just got to the not profitable enough stage for the factory is what I heard . Major refit was needed and the admin costs kept mounting each year

Never used subs for hunting. But found cci standard weak penetration. Shouldn’t be high velocity better for small games?

Im not saying I disagree by the way in a perfect world sure that’s probably what you would do

price per brick (500rounds) is $70-$120 (£34-£60 for Good quality ammo
If i was to try 10 types that would cost say $1000 (£500)
Resale for ammo I didn’t use would be maybe 60-70% if you’re lucky that that’s kiwis for ya we are a bunch of tight arses

My rifle is only worth about $400 all set up

So yes its a risk that maybe there will be no more in stock I get that Cci subsonic is out of stock till Christmas according to a couple of shops ive spoken to
But hopefully trying 10 types gives me a few options that the gun likes and I’ll get whatever i can
