I know people do it, especially with old BSA falling block style actions. But the.22 WMR uses a .224" groove diameter and .219" bore diameter while .22 LR uses .222" and .217". So you would need to think about the extra pressure involved and the ability for the action to take that pressure spike going down a slightly tighter barrel.

Yeah, it's a no go for most .22lr due to the grooves as Kimjon says. Also you're chucking jacketed pills down the bore rather than coated lead.
ok thanks for that i didnt relise there was a difference its in one of those savage combination guns top barrel is a 22lr and bottom one is a 410
I've done a couple and they worked extremely well. One a Martini with an original .22 barrel, custom stock, super accurate. And one a Remington Sportmaster single shot. I used the Remington as it had a good double locking bolt and excellent trigger, made a great hunting rifle, and also super accurate. No pressure problems, no extraction problems with either. Check with your gunsmith, he'll tell you if its a goer or not.
