    Hey team

I'm wanting to buy a .223 for goats. Keen to get some advice on what rifles are worth having a look at. I want to know what's great and not so great . So flick me your advice on what I should and shouldn't look at. I am looking for a 1/8 twist for a heavier load.

    Cheers
    Dave

Another vote for the ruger ranch.
The howa mini is another good option.

pick your budget then go shopping and find a rifle that fits you and feel good in your hands . it is hard to beat a howa for value for money all depends on what you want from rifle . just make sure it not a skinny barrel they heat up to fast

    Greetings,
Make sure that what you get has a 1 in 8" twist. These still shoot the 55 grain projectiles well but can also handle the heavier projectiles with much better BC's. In my safe sits a Remington 700 VSSF with a heavy 26" SS barrel. It would be ideal for shooting 300 yard F class except that it has a 1 in 12" twist. Last season I shot with my T3 Lite .223 with 69 grain projectiles, not ideal. This season it will be the VSSF but will need to use 60 grain V Max about the best it will handle.
    Regards Grandpamac.

I'm running a mauser m18 in 223, cut down to 15inches and running both the 55gr hornady training ammo and belmont 55gr SP for culling goats and fallow. The triggers in these mauser are pretty good, even better than the tikkas I own
Works a treat, don't feel the need to run heavier projectiles using this set up out to 250ish meters, so the 1in1 twist works for me.

I replaced the Ruger ranch with the UTAS. If you don't need AR ergos, get the Ruger.
They are both great goat guns but you might want to mod the charging handle on the UTAS.

son has a steyr pro hunter in 223. the 223 has a medium contour barrel very nice rifle for day walks but a bit heavy for long trips. 308 versions are lighter.
set trigger and very accurate and very easy to shoot.
