Thread: .270 barrel length advice

Hi guys, im looking at fitting my Sako A7 in .270 with a gun works spartan 13.5'' suppressor - wanting advice on how short to cut my barrel. Its currently 21.5'' and im aware .270 needs to have a longer barrel for complete powder burn.

Majority of my hunting is bush/ slips with the occasional long shot out to 350m.

Is 19'' going to be too short?

Want to buy a maximus, lots shorter than spartan. I would go no shorter than 20" for 270 myself

Thanks but i will stick with the 13.5'' one i think, its a little bit lighter and i reckon because of its slimness will go through the bush without hooking up as much.

do you handload? cut it at 20" I had the same setup but a T3 and it was nicely balanced and still punched 150gr pills out at 2850fps

I'd cut it shorter. Much shorter. Right back to the action. Throw .270 barrel and gunworks can in the closest bin.

Then screw a .284 barrel in its place complete with pretty much any other can other than the abortions sold by old mate Rev Rog

You will be much happier in life and receive much less scorn and piss taking.

Yes, do this, if like our Friend Proudkiwi here you feel like you need to compensate for other shortcomings in your life, and reduce the amount of pisstaking you allready receive, then you could try his advice, seems like it must work for him.
