Go for that that eld is a great pill in .270 I’m sure anything north or 2800 it’s going to be brilliant
Mates unmeasured looks like 22” to me and he’s using them at 2930 from memory
Nathan Foster will tell ya you're ruining a good rifle![]()
I know a lot but it seems less every day...
Leave it long for twelve months THEN make the call. I wish I had 24" barrel on mine.
75/15/10 black powder matters
20" works well with the 145 eldx if you want a shortened 270. If you plan on shooting to 400 you're good. 24" is optimal in 270 but plenty doing well with 20 inch. Personally wouldn't go shorter than that.
My Ruger ultralight is 20 inch from factory.
Chop to 18 inches, use Norma brass and superformance powder starting at 55gr working up until you hit 2925fps which will have you sitting on max pressure. In tikka chambers that’s usually around 58gr, a lot of other chambers often a grain or two less. I have loaded this combination in 5 18 inch 270s, 3 tikkas and 2 others (only one of them mine) and has been outstanding in all of them. You’ll need a decent suppressor that can handle the higher exit pressures of the shorter barrel - I’ve used Waitaki engineering suppressors on mine but dpt with a stainless baffle will do the trick just fine
Thanks guys , i think 20 will be were i head as i have shorted my other rifles to that with out to much trouble . Mickey i would leave it 24 as i myself dont usually worry about cans and a can on that makes it a bit long and my dog doesnt like with out one so it will get a trim at some stage . Probably get a DPT one i think they are pretty good
Make sure you have a steel baffled can design if you have a 20" .270.
As your short barrel will be very hard on the can and alloy baffles will get etched away fairly quickly.
Welcome to Sako club.
Most versatile 270 I've had (I've had one or two) was 19" suppressed, 150lrab @2850 with 2213sc smacked over stuff as far as I could shoot. Better bullet and higher BC than the 145eld in my opinion. Would go good with reloder 23 also
Flappy Disc Customs Bespoke Hunting Rifles
Chopped a Tikka to 19" the other day for a customer, stuck a Stainless baffeled silencer on it and the customer loves it.
