    270 WSM 20”

Considering factory options to turn into a 20” hunting rifle that you can stretch easily to 300m with up to 140-150gr bullet but also trying to find a balance between recoil. So been playing with the 6.5 PRC and unfortunately not to many factory 7mm options. So would you conquer if you divide?

Had a quick play around on Quickload with 270 WSM and can get about 2900fps out of 20” barrel for the 150gr ABLR, but the 1:10 twist will most likely present a challenge in stabilising the bullet, but there are some other options as well. Suppose a 284 or SAUM would be ideal but no factory options. Shortening a factory 6.5 PRC is also a option, but components seems to be a challenge.

Any real world experience with a 270 wsm?

Greg Duley uses a standard .270 with an 18" barrel on his TV shows. Quoted as "Hornady 145gn ELD-X driven by 57 to 58gns of Superformance powder in Norma brass with Federal Fed 210 primers for 2925fps".

That's pretty useful for a lot less powder than what you are suggesting.

If you are only thinking 300 just about army short action round in 6.5 or 7mmm will get you there. Any of the 08 cases would be fine. As much as I don't really like it the creedmore would probably be spot on particularly if you want to keep the recoil down

I can categorically state for A FACT your standard garden variety poohseventy with 140grn loads will get your deer at 350 yards with no fuss or bother and not huge amount of recoil either...suppressed,the recoil wont even be enough to bother slimmer built folks.

oh and you dont need to use chronicgraph or range finders or twiddle n fiddle with knobs to do it either...point n shoot...at 270 yards it be pretty much bang on if 2.5-3" high at hundy...out at 350...top of shoulder..... its not rocket science and folks been doing it for what???50 years??? now.

I found the wsm a horrid rifle to shoot while it was accurate it just wasnt enjoyable even with a can the 150lrab is a good pick I'd do 270 308 saum or as above any 08 based case for that range

10 twist will stabilise the lrab just fine. With the right powder you'd get a lot more than 2900fps out of it also. I used to use the lrab exclusively in my 19" barrel 270win and pushed them at 2850 with 2209 no worries.
    270 is a harmonic divisor number[1]
270 is the fourth number that is divisible by its average integer divisor[2]
270 is a practical number, by the second definition
The sum of the coprime counts for the first 29 integers is 270
270 is a sparsely totient number, the largest integer with 72 as its totient
Given 6 elements, there are 270 square permutations[3]
    10! has 270 divisors
270 is the smallest positive integer that has divisors ending by digits 1, 2, …, 9.

And that would be more like a 600yd capable round wouldn't it?

With any load you are really only loosing 50yards range at most cutting a 270win from 22-20inches.

There's obviously more to this yarn. 300m is bread and butter for teency wee 6.5s

If you just want one then go for it. It was overbore before it was cut to 20" so there will be some exhaust gasses to get rid of.

Factory Tikka t3x elite .270 with the 20" barrel gets 2800 fps with factory Hornady 145gr eldx which the two longest shots have been 693 yards and 680 yards. 1 made it about 15 metres and the other flopped on the spot.
Loaded up some 140gr bergers which are doing 2900 fps. That isn't a max load either just the more accurate load.
You wouldn't catch me using a magnum for 300 yards. Extra boot, bigger suppressor. I shoot comfortably out to 500 yards with my 16" barrel .308 and many are doing the same range with 7mm08s and 6.5s.

Just chop it. It will still go bang but you will like it more
I dont regret chopping my kimber 300wsm to 20 inches and the deer still fall over. I think its about perfect.
