I haven't shot any animals with mine yet but I expect it to perform on reds out to 600-650 yards if conditions are right,
My standard 270win was still very effective at dropping deer on the spot from 100-450yards.
I intend to load 145g eldx and looking for speed around the 3200fps mark.
Don't get me wrong I will always get closer if possible but I am comfortable shooting out to that range and have the foot pounds required for ethical kills over 1400ft/lbs and the ability to place the shot where I need to at that range.

I always used minimum ethical killing power as 1000ft/lbs and thought that was the norm. Surely would give your 270 a lot more legs if you used that figure?

Impact velocity is more important or nothing would ever die humanly from a 223.
