@Stocky be aware that advocates for the 30-30 AI usually compare it handloaded with factory 30-30

You will likely be handloading for the 30-30 Contender so the benefits will be less in going AI
Also the issues with case life and sizeing etc will be vastly less in the contender than a vintage lever action

Load it up and go use it
That's what I will be doing as soon as I pick up the G1 frame from CHCH

Looks like you get quite a bit more capacity with ai on 30-30.

Isn't the problem though that 30-30 are thin necks and designed with fairly loose tolerance chambers to allow for the mechanics?

Interesting it wasn't velocity I was chasing more case stretching and increased case life. As well as the better ability to handle pressure of a less tapered case. I will be loading as soon as I can get some powder. Have brass and projectiles now.

Well my guess is you won't have any of those issues with a modern production single shot as long as you don't go too high with pressures

Gidday Akaroa is onto it - if are you running a Contender? If so youll strike other issues well before you'll need to worry about case stretch etc - the action wont be happy at much over 42,000 psi and its best not to get to 50,000 psi. My 6.8 spc loads are pretty much max at 47,000 psi. Cheers

I have only fired the 30-30 single shot I built last week 10 times
    Waiting for the suppressor

But all 10 high proof rounds were with the same case and fully resized every time
    I was trying to
1 see if case length stretch was going to be an issue .
2 see if I could encourage case web / base separation because there is still a tiny feature of the old 30-06 neck still in the new chamber because if I machined it down to remove entirely the rifle would end up below minimum legal length
3 see if my self made 4 flute chamber reamer was up to spec

None of these things were a problem at all
And when the suppressor arrives I will keep punishing that one case

Also the Baikal 30-30 doesn't yet have an extractor but it doesn't seem to mind
I just tip it up and the spent case drops out as soon as it cools a fraction

So my conclusion is that the 30-30 case is ideal for single shot rifles as is
And the 30-30 AI might not be as good in a rifle with limited extractor power as per most break action single shots

Cool I had wondered that also without having to size cases so aggressively to function as in a lever action though may make a difference. Cases with less taper do tend to "stick to the walls" better as seen by the factory 375 win barrels that have a saami max of 47kpsi iirk.
