    300 Blackout

Any thoughts on the 300 AAC / Blackout ammo ?
I'm looking for a new bush rifle for deer that rarely see's me shoot beyond 100mtr.
Saw this round today and like to hear some thoughts. Cheers.

sub 100 yards for deer the 7.62x39mm will do the job just as well and a heck of a lot cheaper both in rifle price and factory ammo.
the AAC is the new skid on the jock designed for subsonic with supers as 2nd option......... lets see if it lasts the distance time wise.

+1 on the 7.62x39 on an AR platform.
I have been using mine now for 12 months on goats and deer and it drops everything with authority with Highland factory ammo.

    What he said re 7.62x39

I think it will last @Micky Duck, SOCOM have adopted it and it was designed for their use.

    But time will tell

Doesn't do anything a 308 or 7.62x39 doesn't do already, but for the $800 the Ruger ranch rifles were it didn't matter cos they were cheap enough

Shot 4 dozen deer with my 300 blackout so far and mostly with subsonics. It's only really worth it if you reload with good expanding projectiles.

I haven't seen them that cheap in a while.
Ruger American 300 Blackout Rifle Suppressed | Trade Me
Ruger American Ranch 300 Blackout | Trade Me

    If I didn't have a 12" barrelled 300 blackout I would choose a 16" fast twist 308win.
It took a bit sorting but I am happy shooting out to 250m with subs and 300m supers, had a 10 shot 5" group on steel last week with a 28 degree incline and 15 mph wind, no worrys with first round hit at 387m using hand load 208gr A-Max and Lehigh 194gr ME subs.

Here my 50th deer with the 300 blackout and the help of the hound.

    Nice one mate.

I've seen those two, I think $1000 is a bit steep for what it is, would rather look second hand for a better rifle Tbh. The attraction is the small case so looking at 300 or 357/44mag etc.

I have just bought a .300 Blk Ruger American Ranch rifle, hand-polished the bolt to remove the 'whistle', given it a trigger job, and fitted an old but tidy 3x Weaver. I will make an overbarrel suppressor and use it as a dedicated subsonic hunting rifle (out to 150 metres). I intend to work up some loads with 220 grain RN as they should have better terminal performance than SMK's, A-max, etc. I have even considered making a hollow-point swage to improve the performance without losing any bullet weight. I will provide updates and pictures as things progress. 40 years ago, when I was playing around with subsonic .308 loads and suppressor designs, the 220 grain RN's worked very well.

Local gunshop, they were $820 on the shelf but there were 3 shipments before that sold out before they arrived. Mine was in the 3rd order and was a little over $700 so was worth the coin, at $900ish they have gone up to there may be better alternatives.

I'll see what the local shelf price is at the moment

I love the 300 versatile and a great short distance rifle. Good choice of pills for reloading but still pretty suck in what's stocked in shops for factory options.
I've gone the reload route and using 110 and 125 gr pills that are more than enough. Smk's most accurate but shite on game as you'd expect but Barnes and hornadys good. At the 125 level the noslers are awesome bang flop projectiles.
Quiet as with supersonics with a good surpressor sounds like a 22 in the bush which is helpful too.
Ruger American ranch beds well and is accurate for $ 800 needs a bit of stock stabilisation but cheap enough to do.

great fun to play with...only issue the bolts on the wrong side for me...lol.

Cheers, I suspected the factory availability and price might be an issue. Does look like a fun change from the 308. Thought it might add a bit more challenge and sport to a day out in the tight stuff.
Unfortunately lefties don't have great choice with rifle selection, I shoot south paw too.!

    That's what AR15s are for

If you don't reload and don't want subsonics go 7.62... Otherwise 300 all the way.

I like both but I would also say that 300 is better in short barrels say sub 16" while 7.62 is better in 16" plus. 300 uses shotgun powder. 7.62 fast rifle powder.
