    300 Blackout anyone ?

    Hi All,
Following the Sika show where I picked up some 300 Blackout ammo (subs and HV) I grabbed a new Howa 1500 this week and have decided to have a play with this one and see where it goes :-).

The plan is to make a short/light bush gun with full over barrel suppressor, so the question is have any of you gentlemen out there had a play with this one ?

I am thinking, cut the barrel to around 11" (then it's still over legal length even without the can) and fit a full length over barrel suppressor so it will look and feel similar to my fully suppressed 410s. The completed gun being no more than about 39" (1 mtr)

    What are your thoughts?

    Have good weekend all

    Cheers

    Darren

Sounds good. If I wasn't setup already, I'd be interested. With the right ammo, it's a more capable cartridge than many think. That said, 8.6BLK looks interesting!

I sold my mini as I hate howa stocks but love the cal my ar shot moa with subs and supers I was having trouble getting sub with the 16 in barrel due to too much powder burn so you are on track with the 11 in barrel my new one will be a ranch rifle cut to 12 in barrel try keep as short as possible with suppressor on 4in muzzle forward should be heaps if full length over barrell as the super cheap cases and others are only 36in inside . Keep us posted sounds good

I had a AR with a 14" barrel and it was an excellent package with a std DPT overburden. I shot it mostly supersonic and enjoyed it a lot. Shot quite a few goats, several pigs and one big red stag with maximum bragging rights, it was hanging out for several weeks on the local golf course and I was the eventual "hole in one" haha.

    Hi Darren,
It was good to catch up with you. My 300 black out/whisper is just under 16*inches long. I used to shoot super as well with it hence why I kept it longish. Did you have a chance to look at Wingman full carbon/titanium 300 black out on shooter ready stand? That was a hell of a nice rig.

I have a kimber 300blk that i use for most things that don’t need a full rifle
Those howa should be light barrel and stainless if you ask me.
I site for 33m with subs that corresponds with a 140m zero for supers

The 300 BLK is fun and a useful cartridge in the right circumstance. To get the most out of subsonic loads, I found I needed to go with the machined copper projs. Even soft cast lead wouldn't give much expansion.

Soft cast bullets need about 1200fps to expand, for subs a HP is essential
