    Smile 300 WSM comments ?

So mate is going to sell his .270 .
Hes in the market for a new rifle .
Bergara, tikka , springfield arms , savage he,s thinking .
He likes my Sako 300 win mag , and my mossberg 7mm prc . But he wants to know about the 300 WSM ....
What he is actually after is something that has the power to deliver a fair whack out to (say ) 600 mts , because my rifles can do that , and sometimes i do shoot that far . ( on his place !) But where as my rifles are full length magnums hes after a "shorter " barrell (say 20 inch ) for the roar as his new bush rifle thats capable to shoot out to 600 mts .

So, whats the story with the 300 WSM ?
    cheers
    les

Im no expert but i really like my 300wsm. Mine is 22 inch tikka, will get cut to 20” at some point. It still throws the 165gr nosler bts at 3065fps. And the 180 bonstrikes at 2980fps.
I have only been using it for a year or so but nothing has walked away. Coming from a 7mm08 i find the recoil fine, noticeably more, but very manageable. Although a newer shooter may develop a flinch if not careful. I have a dpt suppressor and a limbsaver on mine.
Great all rounder that can certainly stretch out if need be.

Great caliber, easy to get shooting well, only downsides are disgustingly expensive brass and usually limited mag capacity due to fat cases

I enjoyed my WSM, all the above comments are correct in my experience.

If you get one I have a bunch of brass spare

As above, really handy calibre. Mainly used with 150 - 200 grain dependent on barrel length and twist. Tikka still stabilise up to 208gr in the Hornady.
I’ve used it with 168, 178, 208 grain projectiles. I’m running really short 18” barrel with 168s, gets me out further than I’d shoot. A lot of people running 20” with 178s. It’s no 7mm efficiency wise unless you go to the heavies but still, it’s only a few extra clicks on the scope.

From the couple I've seen and chronied at the range the factory ammo is right up to spec in normal length barrels, and very consistent. In other words, the factory ammo seems very good even at $5 a pop haha.

Any of the 7 mags will work fine out of a 20 inch as well for that purpose.

Mate has a tikka 300wsm -and shoots the cheapest ammo he can find which is the Hornady white tail 165gr - shoots them at 3200 out the muzzle and will consistently hit 600 yards with almost no wind hold where as my 270 I have to figure out my wind and am way less consistent.

No issues killing deer at 600+ as well. Almost to easy.

I use that ammo also. Bloody marvellous. Shot a big fallow buck in the heart and a couple of wobbly steps and good nite. Most heart shots they run longways, pidgin slang here.
