    300 wsm vs 7mm RM

What is the better caliber out of the 2

Thinking of getting one of the 2 in the future

No “correct” answer to your question- both are capable way out there in terms of range. 7mm ballistics better, 30 cal knockdown (wound channel) better.
Long action, vs short action. Ammo availability.... probably favours the RM.
    Pick one and enjoy.

Saying one is better then the other will just start a debate. They both have their pros and cons depending on what you will use them for and how they will be set up etc.

If you were planning on shortening the barrel a little and suppressing it. The 300Wsm probably has the edge, less loss of velocity, and believe it or not if you had the same length barrel on both 7rm and 300wsm, due to the shorter case you actually have slightly longer rifled barrel length with the wsm.

In reality it's horses for courses, there's really not a lot in it, bullet selection will have more effect than the differences between those two cartridges.

Definitely 7mm mag. Better ballistics with less recoil. A .284 162 tipped projectile will have a BC greater than G1 .6 to get that in .30 you will need to go 200gr or bigger.

I reckon you could argue the opposite. Look at the 7mm rem mag superpigs being done with 20” barrels pushing the 162s at 3k. I know a few guys with them now. I understand the 300wsm pushes the 178 at about 2950 from a 20” barrel so will have a bit more smack up close but ballistically the 7mm is better.

But saying one is outright “better” then the other is the same old recipe for disagreement haha.

30cal fans will prefer the 300 and 7mm fans will prefer the Rem mag. I'm just doing load development with my 300 using 200gr ELD X. Initial results were 2998fps with RL17. Oh and I'm a 30 cal fan.

Ballistics aside, I’d far rather ‘shoot’ my 7RM than my sons 300WSM. Both Sako.
