300blk vs 6.5 grendel with short barrels

So, these are my winning calibers for my next build.

Which of these 2x would be the betlst caliber for 100-300m shots from a short barrell eg 10-12inch ?

I'm wanting a short compact , low profile setup with the suppressor starting at the end of the stock etc

Thoughts and comments please, preferably from someone with first hand experience.

    Thanks
    Lars

What are you wanting to do with the new rifle?
@tikka is your man for 300BLK. Plenty on here with Grendel experience though maybe not that short.

Hunting with it. North island, mainly reds. I messaged tikka a while ago, but he never got back to me.

Hate it not not, I'm going to build it into mdt lss gen 2 chassis, as light as possible and as said, low profile and compact/comparable.

That’s too short IMO for a Grendel.
I had a 16” barrel and struggled to get to 2200fps with 123gn projectiles.
Admittedly I was restricted in overall length and accordingly powder charge by having to fit the rounds into an AR magazine.

300 blk was designed for pistol length barrels and excels on a short barrel.

The Grendel is pretty anemic from a short barrel of equivalent length. Minimum would be 18” for the Grendel in my books.

    I have had both, 9”, 11” and a 16” blk and a 22 and 16” grendel.

Grendel will absolutely smoke 300blk for supersonic performance

Thanks 300blk. What sort of performance were you getting out of your 9 and 11" 300blk? Were you hunting? How was the performance.

Thanks everyone else, I'm not looking for supersonic.

Slimeysquirrell has a really nice tikka 6.5creedmoor in a ess chassis a whole ago, I would like to replicate this almost.

Then it's not even a discussion imo.

300 blk is really good with subs. Lots of projectiles designed for subsonic expansion.

Can't really say the same thing about 6.5 cal

I'd be keen to hear if anyone can reliably take game with a sub at much past 150M, one thing to hit stuff, another to achieve a reliable kill . . .

Neither are going to do a great job out of that length barrel at 300m. I shot a few animals with a 12 inch 300blk, mostly with 125 sst's. Was a good killer up close but not an outstanding one. 200m would be my practical max given what I've seen with that load and the damage up close. You would want pretty soft projectile to push much further. Those short 308 pills slow down pretty quick and the 300 isn't exactly flinging them out to start with.

Personally if 300m is a legit goal I would go 16 inch grendel. If you can keep it more like 150 then the 300blk will do it with the short barrel

The 338BR will easy shoot subs pass 300m, it smashes anything over you hit, a super sized big big brother to a 300bkl
