    308 rebarrel- 260ai?

Got a tikka 595 to rebarrel and looking at options.
Ideally something simple with some legs for 600m hunting.

Would you go 260ai over 260? What's the potential speed increase?

Also anyone know if t3 talley rings fit the older 595?

    50 - 200 fps difference.
I would you can still use 260 ammo in an ai chamber.

Get a stug stock man way nicer then the factory plastic.

    Not sure on rings

    @Neckshot and @BRADS

Not sure I'd shoot a deer at 600m with a 6.5 pushing a 140 at under 3000fps but thats just me. I've read 6.5's are slow killers at 500+

Big raspberries to that mate. How are they any different to equal weight projectiles in other calibres apart from better better BC thru the weights going to the 6.5's and 7mm
Which matters at range. A bullet doing 2500fps leaves a lot of room for error on a live target beyond 500 yards. Static targets are not an issue with either.

Nah it should be fine. Neckshots is only doing like 2600 from the barrel and as everyone knows it kills well.

.308 has been killing stuff a long way out for a long long time, there is NOTHING a .260 (or AI ) can kill at any distance that a .308 cannot, 178 Amax doing 2700fps kills big stags at 700 all you need is accurate range finding and exact understanding of your ballistics, no different to any other calibre. I can get the .208 Amax doing 2500fps and the drop and drift are an interesting comparason with lighter projectiles starting much faster. The .260 delivers less killing energy at close ranges also, 130 TTSX is absolute dynamite out to 300yds. Don't go .260 or .260 AI because it better at killing than a .308 cause it's less than, not more. Go .260 cause the calibre appeals for whatever reason.

If you really want something different, .270 Redding or .270-08, just happen to have a .270 stainless barrel doing nothing..........

rifle needs a new barrel as it's lost accuracy and another 308 barrel is plain boring. 7saum is what i wanted but i hear that it will be a bit complicated.

Straight 260 don't bother with ŕcklying. But legs out to 600m with good killing power I'd go 7mm rem
140 gns kill fine 500 and under.

That's a personal question only my wife gets to ask 24 @R93 is getting 2950 with RL 17. my speed is my hunting load if speed is what blows your hair back by all means chase it.but for me speed isn't what's needed for a hunting load its accuracy .

New barrel shot the 125 partitions today @ 3125 with no pressure signs using my pet load. Just neck sized 3 firings. Seated to mag length.
Shot the partition accurately to 600 in my old barrel. The new one is tighter again so far.
Biggest load of shit I have ever heard that 6.5 projectile is a slow killer at range. Not in my experience at all, try using the right projectile.
In saying that my .260 AI will never have its legs stretched on animals.
