Beware of the overpenetration of the sub loads and the Nasty ricochet behind. I encourage you to practice on a few goats in a more remote area to see the effects of the round and to familiarise yourself with what it can and can't do.

I've just got a subsonic outfit together. I went with 300BLK because of the availability of factory subsonic rounds designed for hunting. Having said that, there is only one option, Hornady Sub-X. Same situation with .308, Winchester Super-X (confusing name!), but nowhere seemed to have these in stock. My setup is primarily for goats at less than 50 metres, so should be adequate. I would also consider 450BM or 45/70. If you reload, then there's no issues with .308. The other thing that I can add is that 300BLK subsonic has undetectable recoil.

It's more common than you think.

The regional council boys and their sub-contractors regularly blat deer in the cemeteries around Welly. Mostly in the dead of night, using thermal gear.

Well there are regular reports of deer coming out in the Hutt Valley, Wainiuomata, some reported up in Newlands. And there's been deer seen on security cameras up around karori.

I run a 300BLK i shoot everything with it reds, pigs, chamois and a lot of goat and mostly with subs, only get ricochets on head shots with 208 elds.

1 of a few from yesterday shot with a 151gr HP cast handload

This with a 168gr Lehigh CF handload at 89m 3pm yesterday, this little 300BLK kills a lot of animals.

Right between the eyes, side of head in the ear ,back of skull. All complete pass throughs and you can hear the ping of the bullet off in another direction so I don't do those shots if the dog in too close just do neck or body shots.

@Scout no need to resight, I like using the red dot for the real close stuff or hunting in the cloud and mist using subs The other scope good for both supers and subs, nice to dialup to hit goats on bluffs and across gully’s.
