    .310 cadet

Hi to everyone who likes old bits of kit.

I Came across a decent looking rifle and wouldn't mind some opinions.

It's a westley & richards with a 310 cadet bsa barrel. Very nice looking butt, the front half not so flash (bore nice but the rest not so), considering it has already been mucked about with i wouldnt be upset rebarreling it and getting a nice walnut forend, currently full wood, with slot for a cleaning rod? can these actions handle a 222r case ok? Or something similar, don't want to Bubba it with a scope so would be open sights only, one more Q are all these actions takedown? ( I had limited time to inspect properly but will be back next week to either pickup or pass on)

    Cheers.

Do not be afraid to scope it to gain full potential or at least a tang sight.Their are a multitude of calibers you can put in one.
Mine is in 357 maximum but 22hornet 218 bee or 222rimmed would all be better served with decent sights.

They are remarkably strong actions stick with a rimmed case though. In the 60s the Americans rebarrelled lots of them for the 218 bee, 219 zipper etc after tests showed they could handle up to 60,000 psi.

    Greetings,
Some will have a hole drilled in the rear of the receiver to allow cleaning from the breech end as the breech block and trigger group drops out as a unit. Wish I had one as nice as the one in the picture. There is a Vickers small martini action with a shot barrel in my cupboard of one day projects. One day perhaps.

@grandpamac is that the model where the barrel and action is all one piece? Need a bit of thought on a rebarrel there

Yes you are correct, barrel and action one piece,
I have 2 of them, both mine have stocks suited to midgets,
Compared to the mod 12/15 bsa which I also have I think 3 off.i have a new stock made which is copied from a pattern I made, bsa grafted to Vickers front half.
My problem will be when I fit the action the grip area on the bsa stock is much more of a right angle and the cocking lever on the Vickers will need altering to fit.
If I knew I could safely heat and reform the lever to suit I would be happy to have a go, I'm worried that they are cast and when I try to alter it I risk it breaking?

Yes ,that's the one. Easy enough to re barrel in .22, centre fire not so much.

@c-dog, I've got one in .222R it's a Greener cadet, same rifle, the action and trigger drop out, I had a hole drilled in the rear for cleaning and bore sighting a scope.

I have seen yours while doing some research. It looks very nice and the route I'll probably take. Good idea about the hole, I will have to see if it has been done previously. How did you get your shooting? Any issues with extraction? Cheers

Not yet, I had a letter from previous owner with when extraction issues started but that was with a powder I can't get here in Perth. I've worked on the trigger mating surfaces with a stone which really improved the trigger release, mines going to a gunsmith to put a new rail on as the existing one is right on the piss.

The original barrels go well as Hornets and mine shoots good groups. With a light action and semi-heavy barrel, balance well.I preferred shooting the Vickers over the BSA Martinis in 22 Hornet.
