Ive been playing with them, Not having much luck yet, 14g Trail boss with 140gr Hornardy FTX @1490fps, but 4" low and right at least as far.
158gr Serria. with 15gr trail boss are the same 4" low and 4" right at 50m, 2" group, 1600fps (I think)
Neither, feed very well out of the mag, too short, catch on front of action before feed ramp.
going to try 180g pistol bullets next.

The problem with pistol bullets is they are .357" diameter not .358" if you try commercial .358" lead bullets they are still under size lead bullets need to be .001"
or more over groove diameter to seal properly.

I've used my 35 Whelen for 20yrs,favourite reload is 225gr sgk,very effective on anything but tempted to try 200gr Barnes just for the hell of it!

how about a 235grn cast FP for a .358 with 2 loads . . . 1 at 1000fps for subsonic and the other at 2000fps


zero the sub at 50yrds which should give you a +100yrd zero for the super load without altering the sights, with enough grunt to 200yrd shots

No gas check but ideal for subs

looks good @shooternz . . . i could look at diagrams of cast boolits all day

personally i always like a shank for a gas check even if i dont use a gas check, it fills with lube which Col. Harrison recommended back in the day for light loads.
i have tried flatbase cast bullets & saw no difference between the two but somehow i just like the idea . . forget i mentioned it

The lubes back in Col Harrisons day were not as good as modern lubes you don't need as much now,
the modern bullet designs have much shallower and narrower grooves making the bullet stronger,
I too like looking at bullet designs one design I want to get is a Guy Loverin .30 cal design real old school accuracy
has to be a steel or iron mould to cast properly and it's my favourite metal for moulds

i disagree that lubes or molds are better now . . theyre different

Very interested in the 375 Raptor do you know if there is a reamer in N.Z and I'm not sure if anyone in N.Z makes a barrel with that large a hole in it.

no help with a reamer . . . but check out mikee .375wsm

might be a whole lot easier & cheapeer to buy his
you get a long action so no worries about seating the longer bullets out

barrel is already run in & perfect barrel length

Mitch has a Douglas barrel in 358 but is tied up with commercial work for the next few months, anyone know who has a reamer to hire please.
