Been playing with the .300 blk but have seen a .444 Marlin Winchester Model 70 for sale. Should I try sneak it past the accountant?

The answer is:
N-1
N=number of guns owned before divorce
That goes without saying @specweapon
I'd get it mate
And yes you should tell her.
Just not straight away ........... Save it for your retirement years when she'll forget about it in a day or so.

Get it and hide it from her till Xmas. Get young children to witness the wonder as you discover Santa has visited your safe and left a tinsel draped rifle just for you!. Remember those who blow Santa are evil islamic communists and get no more presents.
I was more looking for comments on the cartridge and maybe on brass availability, have been saving for something like .450 bushmaster but this should be fairly similar. Good to know you all have a softer side though, how many have been divorced?
Winchester model 70s are great rifles.
444 Marlin is a great cartridge.
Can't really see any downside to that combination.
Brass is readily available ... I'd start with Reloaders Suppliers
Robert Walker in Tokaroa could supply you with some very good cast projectiles too.

awesome bush rifle that has the grunt to poleaxe anything in NZ with ease. don't ask why..ask why not....
444Marlin, 450 marlin, 375 big bore, 45/70 all are fun to shoot, all make a big hole and all come in Lever action, what is not to like....Do what I did, get the missus shooting and get a pair, oner in 444 for you, one in 30/30 for her. You can also swap from time to time just for fun....really helps if they join in..
As every lever man knows, Hornady's Leverevolution ammo changed the game for these calibers. New flexitip rounds and powder mix really boosted performance. 444 and 450 pack serious energy and would hit like a bus at close to medium range. Some interesting comment and ballistics here:

Gotta love em.... Both Marlin 336 and Winny 94 30-30s shot nice groups at 100 in this test - and this was with 2.5 - 3x scopes. I'd expect both to be averaging round 1" groups if mounted for test purposes with a good 12 - 18x with its much more precise target definition.
