    6.5 creedmoor 1st range trip

So I have posted in the show us your toys thread
But ill Repeat this bit as some of you might of missed it
So I sold my 260 nice rifle but me and it just didn’t gel

So about 3 weeks ago I ordered its replacement I brought a howa heavy barrel action in 6.5 creedmoor
I ordered a walnut stock Separately from the howa agent

As soon as it arrived I had it sent direct to the gun smith
And had a bunch of work done to it

    Glass and pillar bedding
    Trigger job
    Shortened and threaded
And a couple of other bits

I brought burris Signature zrings and warne steel bases and a new dpt suppressor as id sold my old one with the 260
Temporarily I have mounted my Nikon buck master 4-14x40 sf

Got it out to the range yesterday for the 1st time
I shot 12 just getting used to it and getting it zeroed
And shot a couple of groups with the last 8 from the packet
1st group was a 3 shot group aiming at the 0

The group was slightly left so moved it right 2 clicks

    2nd group was a 5 shot group
The last 2 shots went way low and right
Not sure what happened there but I noticed the suppressor had come slightly loose so blaming that for now and haven’t included those two shoots in the group

    All and all very happy
I can’t wait to get some handloads down it I think if it’s shooting sub moa with factory ammo
It should be a bloody tack driver

My Howa heavy barrel varminter took a 50-60 rounds to run in and settle down. There will have been tiny wee burrs in the barrel, they disappear over time. My barrel sped up, noticeably, after about 100 rounds. It shot tiny little groups from the get go, but a little bit of shifting around like yours, though looking at those last two shots I'd check the mounts for sure.

It will be a tack driver.

To be expected from a 6.5...sweedmoor.....that's why the x55-guys have been laughing for so many years

Yeah mate it’s only had a grand total of 25 shots down it so far (i fired 20 and let a mate shoot 5)
So i was expecting it to be a little inconsistent for awhile
    But I’ll check the mounts

Yep a really big fan of anything 6.5 had most common Cartridges
I reckon if you a hand loader
55-260-6.5cm and 6.5x47 are all very similar
I went for cm this time as I wanted a short action rules out 55 I didn’t want a custom build rules out 47
Leaving 260 and cm is more popular there for easyer to get bits for than 260 also my preferred brand of howa doesn’t do 260
Which left me with creedmoor which is what I got
    Cheers

It looks like a great rifle. I often take the piss out of creedmoors, but would certainly have one if the finances allowed.I do the same with pooh-70's, and I have 2 ! Howas , Zastavas and Parker-Hales,would be my 3 favourite platforms for customs, (well-made and affordable). Wood/Blued..its an addiction; how to get fine-furniture,engineering and Art ! all rolled into one...and it goes bang (even girls like them lol )

On the subject of the 6.5's,.260's etc, I agree they all have their quirks and are generally much of a muchness ie., it all comes down to twist-rate and barrel-length along with chamber-dimension. Pressures vary, but the Swedes/Norwegians showed that the 6.5 projo only needs "x" amount of fps, and rpm, to perform. That 1-7/8ths (ish) to-8 twist, between 2500 & 2800, works. I've never tried the commercial offerings in 1-9, but they could be fun with the light projo's, and pressures should be down. It's a real shame that .270's dont come in 1-8, I reckon That would be interesting

Building a 270 with a 1-8 twist would be a bit like trying to polish a turd
